Job summary

Amentum is seeking a Supervising Discipline Engineer (Electrical) to lead the electrical engineering team on industrial projects of advanced complexity. You will ensure compliance with codes, guide the discipline across design phases, and manage budgets and schedules.

Ideal candidates have 12+ years in electrical engineering for industrial projects, 5+ years of supervisory experience, PE license, and strong NEC knowledge. Travel and security clearance may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from a 4-year accredited college or university.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain one in an assigned state.
  • Strong NEC knowledge and experience in electrical design for industrial facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure engineering documents comply with state laws/regulations and seal when required.
  • Coordinate electrical discipline with other disciplines throughout the project.
  • Establish schedules and budgets to meet project requirements and obtain approvals.
  • Lead manpower, man-hour, and labor cost planning for a project and monitor budget impact.
  • Mentor and supervise electrical design team and support project engineering managers.

Job description

Amentum is actively seeking a Supervising Discipline Engineer (SDE). This role will be responsible for a variety of engineering tasks in the initial planning through final design phase for Industrial projects of advanced complexity. The SDE is responsible for technical electrical project knowledge and managing the electrical engineering team to meet customer and project requirements regarding scope, scheduling and budgets. Provides a liaison between discipline engineers and Project Managers with respect to project scope, budget, scheduling and overall engineering and design requirements and employee administration. The SDE shall report to the Chief Discipline Engineer.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assume responsibility for ensuring that engineering documents comply with applicable state laws/regulations, including affixing registered engineer seal when required.
  • Coordinate the electrical discipline's engineering with that of other disciplines.
  • Maintain records, files and other documents pertaining to the electrical discipline.
  • Assign preparers and checkers for electrical discipline specifications and coordinates review of external specifications.
  • Establish schedules and budgets to meet project requirements and obtains approval.
  • Maintain technical coordination with the Principal Engineer to ensure adherence to industry codes, regulatory requirements and sound engineering practices.
  • Direct the preparation and submits periodic reports and forecasts on the status of the electrical discipline.
  • Comply with state requirements for continuing education, maintains and obtains licenses as requested.
  • Continually upgrade technical knowledge and capabilities and pursues additional coursework and training.
  • Advises the Project Engineering Manager regarding status of assignment(s) with respect to schedule, budgets, delays and adverse problems.
  • Work closely with Chief Electrical Engineer and Project Engineering Managers on employee evaluations and promotions and the overall technical improvement of the group.
  • Lead the development of manpower, man-hour, and labor cost requirements for a project and can monitor the effect of these on the budget.
  • Able to lead all aspects of electrical estimating.
  • Responsible for performance management and mentoring.
  • Provide assistance to projects to address technical issues related to process improvement.
  • Assist in training and mentoring/coaching other team members.
  • Assist in the development of training programs within area of technical expertise and conducts training sessions as appropriate.
  • Create positive working relationships with peer leaders.
  • Create productive relationships with organizations both within and external to Engineering.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from a 4-year accredited college or university.
  • Must have minimum of 12+ years of experience in electrical engineering/design of Industrial projects.
  • This must include 5+ years of experience in managing/supervising medium to large electrical design team.
  • Advanced experience must include physical design, control, protection, metering and communication requirements for facilities, including specifying and sizing electrical equipment, power system analysis, and utility interfaces.
  • Has strong understanding of Process, Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Architectural and Instrumentation disciplines.
  • Good oral and written communication skills; working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications; organizational skills and ability to perform detail-oriented work are required.
  • Must have advanced knowledge with the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • 2D AutoCAD/Revit and or MicroStation Experience.
  • Must have a Professional Engineer License (PE) AND the ability to obtain a license in an assigned state.
  • Position may require travel.
  • Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.

US Citizenship is required. US Dual citizenship may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

3D AutoCAD MEP, MicroStation, and/or Revit design experience.

Government facility (DOE, DOD, Army Corps of Engineers) project experience

Compensation & Benefits

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $135k - 175k Annually (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant internal equity, and alignment with market data.)

Compensation Details
