A leading organization in New York City seeks a Supervising Attorney for its Immigration Law Unit, focusing on non-detained removal defense. The Immigration Law Unit (ILU) in The Legal Aid Society’s Civil Practice is a recognized leader in providing high-quality legal representation to non-citizens across all five boroughs of New York City and surrounding counties. Our team of nearly 100 attorneys, social workers, and paralegals collaborates across six projects to deliver client-centered, interdisciplinary, and comprehensive legal services.
We are seeking a Supervising Attorney for the Non-Detained Removal Defense team. This role involves coordinating and supervising the Unit’s Immigrant Opportunity Initiatives (IOI) Program, which handles both affirmative and defensive immigration cases. The program offers free, comprehensive immigration services to low-income New Yorkers, including removal defense, asylum, and applications before USCIS, BIA, and family courts for SIJS motions.
The Supervising Attorney will oversee daily operations, work closely with leadership, and mentor staff. They will participate in management discussions and strategic decision-making.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
The salary range is $99,444 – $163,507, based on experience and qualifications. The Society offers comprehensive benefits, including health insurance, paid leave, disability, and life insurance.
