Job summary

Gateway Longview in Buffalo, NY seeks a Supervised Independent Living Program Caseworker (SILP) to provide supervision, case management, counseling, and training to help youth achieve independent living and community self-sufficiency.

The role emphasizes safety, collaboration with schools and service providers, and development of individualized living plans, with frequent coordination and documentation. Full-time, Monday–Friday, with crisis response flexibility and strong benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a human services related field with 3 years experience
• New York State driver’s license and adequate auto insurance

Responsibilities

• Teach, model and evaluate techniques for youth focused on academic, vocational services and life skills
• Ensure safety and progress toward goals through weekly counseling and apartment visits
• Complete progress notes, court reports, safety assessments, and documentation within 48 hours
• Collaborate with youth, families, schools and community partners using trauma-informed care
• Help develop and implement independent living plans and life skills training
• Ensure safety and security of clients and building through checks and monitoring
• Participate in required training and mentor interns/volunteers
• Other duties as assigned

Position Summary

Provide supervision, support, case management, counseling, and training necessary to help youth with a goal of independent living become self supporting citizens of their community

Department

Gateway Longview’s Community Based Services supports children, youth, and families throughout the community. The objective of the program is to strengthen the family unit or the child’s system of care, continually working toward the overall goal of permanency and stability for all children.A full team of Foster Care staff also works to certify and support foster, adoptive, and kinship families throughout the region.

Compensation

Bachelor's Degree: $19.50 - $21.59 per hour
Master's Degree: $21.30 - $23.38 per hour

Position Specific Duties/Responsibilities:

• Teach, model and evaluate effective techniques and interventions with youth focused on academic, vocational services and life skills including but not limited to safe and affordable housing services, services to enhance self-sufficiency, and methods to sustain meaningful employment
• Proactively ensure the safety and well-being of clients and their progress toward individual goal attainment through use of weekly counseling and frequent visits to their apartments In addition to life skills training and frequent communication with community providers.
• Ensure accurate, thorough, and timely completion and filing of progress notes, court reports, safety/skills assessments, correspondence, and other case-specific documentation. Prepare and document in Connections within 48 hours detailed progress notes. Maintain current ETO data.
• Utilize a Solution-Focused Trauma-Informed Care Approach to collaborate with youth, ECDSS, family/natural supports, service providers and community partners (i.e. Buffalo Public Schools, ECC, Job Training Programs) to minimize barriers, enhance youth participation, establish a comprehensive service plan and enhance success
• Assist program staff in the development and implementation of client’s independent living plans through instructing, counseling and directing them in matters of personal conduct, hygiene, appearance, social skills, routines and work habits. Foster the physical, spiritual and emotional needs of each child and effectively assist clients in developing Independent Living Skills
• Ensure the safety and security of clients as well as the Monroe Street Building via safety checks, building walkthroughs, sign in/out procedures, resident access reports and monitoring of the surveillance system.
• Actively participate in required/offered training opportunities to minimally meet the yearly contractual training requirements. Provide mentoring opportunities for student interns and volunteers within the agency as needed
• Other duties as assigned

• Available to work non-traditional hours, including weekend, evenings, and after hours to support specific programmatic schedules and crisis intervention needs. Maintain on-call responsibilities as scheduled
• Ability to work effectively with clients, staff, families, and community contacts
