Superior Court - Criminal Division Services - Part Time Security Officer

Job Overview

This position is not eligible for benefits. It is a part-time, non-exempt, unclassified role covered under the Superior Court Employee Handbook. It is an employee-at-will position.

Working hours are from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, with shifts varying and occasional weekend shifts required, totaling 20-25 hours per week.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor clients and the public entering and exiting the facility.
  • Perform pat-downs and confiscate weapons or dangerous items.
  • Prepare incident reports.
  • Secure hallways, offices, and public areas throughout the day.
  • Escort staff during deposit of collections.
  • Ensure the safety and security of the facility during operational hours and after hours.
  • Conduct chemical and breathalyzer tests on clients.
  • Assist field officers during client supervision.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED and over one year of security or law enforcement experience.
  • Possess and provide a Court-approved handgun.
  • Knowledge of search techniques and evidence collection.
  • Understanding of applicable laws.
  • Ability to handle potentially violent situations with authority.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Use of communication and safety equipment.
  • Completion and maintenance of Court-approved firearms training and qualifications.
  • Valid Indiana Firearms Permit and Driver’s license.
Working Conditions

The role involves both indoor and outdoor work, with physical activities including walking, standing, lifting, and exposure to various environmental conditions. Frequent contact with potentially aggressive or violent individuals is expected.
