The Town of Luray is seeking an outstanding individual to serve as our next Superintendent of Public Works. This position will supervise full-time and part-time staff to manage, direct, and coordinate the construction of improvements to, and maintenance of, roads, public rights-of-way, water distribution, sewer collection, buildings and grounds, and solid waste collection within the Public Works Department.
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Town Manager. This is a full-time position that requires response to after-hours emergency situations and weather conditions. Prior experience with water distribution systems, sewer collection systems, road construction, maintenance of traffic, and safety regulations required. The ability to develop and communicate work plans and schedules to staff is imperative. Clear communication skills are essential.
A combination of education and experience in public works will be considered, along with individual qualifications and certifications. A Virginia CDL Class A or B is required to be obtained in 12 months. This is considered an essential position and requires physically demanding work in adverse weather conditions. Responding to community needs is critical for success. This position is Exempt and is not eligible for overtime. Adjusted work schedules are possible.
