Qualifications

• Degree in Horticulture, Landscape Architecture, or related field.
• 5+ years of progressive horticulture or landscape management experience.
• Proven experience leading a grounds crew.
• Working knowledge of irrigation systems and IPM.
• Texas pesticide/herbicide applicator license or ability to obtain.

About the Role

We are hiring a Superintendent of Horticulture & Grounds to lead the ornamental landscape and grounds presentation across all of our non-golf properties. This is a working leadership role - you will be in the soil alongside your crew of three, not managing from a desk. You will report directly to our Director of Agronomy and serve as a peer to our Golf Course Superintendent, coordinating resources, programs, and standards across the full property.

What You Will Do

• Plan, install, and maintain seasonal plantings, ornamental beds, shrubs, trees, and turf across all clubhouse and amenity areas - hands-on, daily
• Lead a crew of three: set the pace in the field, manage daily scheduling, provide on-the-job training, and guide performance
• Develop and manage the horticulture operating budget in coordination with the Director of Agronomy
• Maintain irrigation systems, drainage, and hardscape features within assigned areas
• Coordinate with the Golf Course Superintendent on equipment sharing, chemical and fertilizer programs, water management, and property-wide agronomic standards
• Source plant material, fertilizers, and horticultural products; manage vendor relationships
• Support department-wide initiatives, special projects, and capital planning
• Provide grounds support during tournaments, member events, and peak season in collaboration with the golf team
• Maintain a safe working environment and ensure compliance with all safety and chemical handling regulations
• Serve as a professional, member-facing representative of the Agronomy department

Working Conditions

This is a primarily outdoor role in all seasons and weather conditions across the club's property. Early morning starts, weekend availability, and flexibility around club events are expected. The role involves regular walking, bending, and lifting. This is a working superintendent position - we designed it that way on purpose.

Requirements

What We Are Looking For

• Degree in Horticulture, Landscape Architecture, Ornamental Horticulture, or a related field (preferred)
• 5+ years of progressive horticulture or landscape management experience, ideally in a private club, resort, or high-end residential setting
• Proven experience leading a grounds or horticulture crew
• Working knowledge of irrigation systems, integrated pest management, and Texas Hill Country plant material
• Strong communication skills - equally comfortable talking with your crew and engaging directly with club members and leadership
• Current Texas pesticide/herbicide applicator license, or the ability to obtain within an agreed timeline
