EMCOR Group, Inc. in Des Moines, IA is seeking a Superintendent Intern to learn day-to-day manpower management under the Commercial Superintendent. This on-site role focuses on planning, recruiting and coordinating with apprenticeship programs and union shop.

You will work closely with project teams, ensure safety compliance, assist with communications, documentation and administrative tasks, and prepare for a career in construction management.

  • Long-term interest in a construction career such as project management, estimating, operation management including safety, superintendent, etc.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have excellent organizational, communication, strategic, technical, analytical, problem solving, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Must have high standards of quality with attention to detail.
  • Conscientiousness, personal responsibility and dependability.
  • Familiarity with Windows based operating systems and web-based applications, include ERP systems or other construction/financial software packages.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with all federal, state, and local safety and health guidelines and requirements, as well as site-specific safety provisions.
  • Partner with the Superintendent in the following activities: Site-specific guidance and coordination for employees; Assisting in communications with project managers and other team members on progress on projects in terms of labor and manpower; Ensuring sites are compliant and overall functioning as expected; Reviewing daily reporting to determine necessary actions; Coordinating with the local union on any manpower needs; Administrative tasks, such as distribution of apprentice evaluations, tracking certifications or licenses, coordination with HR and Safety on compliance activities.
  • Escalate critical and/or sensitive issues to HRM or Executive Leaders with recommendation for resolution.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Job Title: Superintendent Intern

Reports to: Commercial Superintendent

Location: Des Moines, IA

FLSA Status: Hourly Non-Exempt

Position Description. Learn from the General Superintendent about many different aspects of managing day-to-day manpower needs, including, but not limited to planning, recruiting & disciplining, and partnering with the apprenticeship school and union shop.
