Job description

Job Title: Superintendent - Industrial Construction

Location: Chicago, IL

Company: The Boldt Company

Anticipated Salary Range: $117,000 - $153,000

At Boldt, we build more than complex projects, and we build strong relationships, great teams, and lasting impact.

Boldt is looking for an Industrial Superintendent to help lead and grow our field presence across the Chicagoland area. This is a relationship-driven, hands-on leadership role for someone who understands how work is built in active process facilities and can confidently coordinate field employees, trade partners, subcontractors, and customers. The ideal candidate brings a strong industrial construction background—preferably with millwright, ironworker, or heavy industrial experience—and understands how equipment installation, structural steel, concrete, piping, electrical, and other critical scopes come together in complex operating environments. This individual will serve as Boldt's frontline representative in the field, building strong customer relationships while leading safe, productive, and high-quality project execution.

This role will support a portfolio of industrial projects as Boldt continues building momentum in the Chicago market. Current opportunities include structural steel, concrete, millwright, and subcontracted MEP work across manufacturing and process-based facilities throughout the region. Beyond managing daily field operations, this superintendent will play an important role in planning and scheduling work, supporting estimating efforts through man-hour and constructability input, mentoring foremen and field leaders, and helping establish a strong operational foundation for Boldt's growing industrial presence in Chicago. Projects are primarily located throughout the Chicagoland area, with flexibility to support opportunities across the broader Midwest when needed.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $117,000 - $153,000 annually. This information reflects the anticipated base salary for this position based on current market data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Actual pay will be adjusted based on an individual’s skills, experiences, education, and other job-related factors permitted by law.

What You Bring

  • 7+ years of construction industry experience with supervisory experience leading field teams, craft employees, trade partners, and subcontractors.

  • Industrial construction experience in process facilities such as food and beverage, pulp and paper, manufacturing, or similar active industrial environments.

  • A trade-centered background such as ironworker or millwright experience; heavy industrial carpenter experience may also be relevant when paired with process-facility experience.

  • Ability to plan, schedule, coordinate, and supervise the work, including methods of construction, staffing levels, material quantities, equipment needs, power sources, and work schedules.

  • Experience managing multiple trade scopes, including structural steel, concrete, millwright work, and subcontracted MEP scopes such as electrical, piping, plumbing, and related work.

  • Strong understanding of how equipment is installed, assembled, rigged, and coordinated with surrounding building modifications or process-facility constraints.

  • Ability to help estimate work, evaluate project scope, provide man-hour input, and translate field knowledge into practical estimating and planning support.

  • Advanced understanding of construction scheduling, duration planning, cost control, productivity tracking, document controls, RFIs, field changes, daily reports, and schedule updates.

  • Strong customer-facing communication skills and ability to serve as Boldt’s frontline field representative with owners, project teams, subcontractors, inspectors, and trade partners.

  • A safety-first mindset with the ability to monitor jobsite safety, document and correct unsafe work practices, and support Boldt’s Zero Today goal; OSHA 30 preferred.

  • Ability to mentor and develop field leaders, foremen, general foremen, and project team members while building trust and accountability across the jobsite.

  • Willingness to work throughout the Chicagoland area, including projects that may be within roughly a two-hour radius, with openness to broader Midwest travel when project needs require it.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Primavera P6, Touchplan, or similar scheduling tools; the ideal candidate can read and help build schedules, even if they are not the primary scheduler.

  • Direct experience in food and beverage, pulp and paper, or other process-facility environments where equipment installation, outages, and production impacts are central to the work.
