Job description

Job Title

Position: Superintendent (GC)

Location: *varies*

Objective

The GC Superintendent is the overall field leader on a construction project. The main goals are to complete the project on schedule, within budget, to the specified quality, and with zero safety incidents. The superintendent protects and promotes CCC’s interests while maintaining a positive attitude. Supervision and leadership engage the workforce, including subcontractors, to complete the project to all parties’ satisfaction. Travel may be required.

Key Accountabilities
  • Provide leadership, establish and maintain effective working relationships on the site, promote positive project morale.
  • Complete knowledge and understanding of the General Contract, each Subcontract, contract drawings, specifications, and addenda; assist the Project Manager in developing on‑site procedures.
  • Examine contract drawings, specifications, and addenda for design deficiencies, impractical details, and possible code violations; bring these to the Project Manager’s attention for review with the Architect.
  • Support the Project Manager and Scheduling Manager in developing and refining the Project Schedule; update schedules and meet required dates.
  • Plan and review the Construction Program with the Project Manager, including quality control, safety, field office layout, temporary utilities, staging areas, equipment, and manpower.
  • Verify each Subcontractor has completed contractual requirements (Certificate of Insurance, executed Subcontract, Schedule of Values, Safety Program) before work begins.
  • Ensure all required permits or licenses are obtained and a weatherproof bulletin board is installed with posted safety notices.
  • Cooperate with inspection agencies, direct activities, and effect remedial actions indicated by reports.
  • Chair weekly coordination meetings, monthly safety meetings, and issue typed minutes to the Project Manager.
  • Receive and review subcontractors’ daily reports of work done and labor and material employed.
  • Review and approve subcontractor’s monthly payment requests.
  • Maintain good relations and communications with all project participants, including the public.
  • Ensure subcontractors enforce their safety programs, including toolbox safety meetings and Pre‑Task Plans.
  • Overtime and travel may be required.

Core Competencies
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience managing large‑scale GC industrial and heavy commercial projects.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Current CPR/AED certificate required.
  • 30‑hour OSHA training required.
Work Environment
  • Fast‑paced, busy, and occasionally noisy.
  • May involve managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • May require outdoor work with exposure to various weather conditions.
  • Occasional work in high or precarious places, near fumes, airborne particles, or handling toxic chemicals.
  • Risk of electrical shock and vibration may occur in certain situations.
  • Frequent interruptions to address team members’ needs and vendor requests.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent travel by motor vehicle may be required.
  • Extended hours on construction sites may necessitate physical stamina.
  • Effective and professional communication with supervisors, employees, and others, individually and in a team setting.
  • Strict adherence to safety protocols and the ability to follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment guidelines, and company policies.
