Qualifications

  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related technical discipline, or a trade qualification with leadership experience.
  • Proven experience supervising equipment installation, heavy lift, and rigging in large projects.
  • Strong knowledge of lift planning, rigging practices, and crane operations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead equipment installation, rigging, heavy haul, and lifting activities to meet schedules and budgets.

As a Superintendent - Equipment/Rigging, you will provide site-based leadership for all equipment installation, heavy lift, rigging, and specialized construction activities, ensuring projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with customer expectations, project objectives, and Worley’s commitment to sustainable project delivery.

Working at the center of project execution, you will coordinate field operations, supervise multidisciplinary construction teams, and drive a culture of safety, quality, collaboration, and operational excellence. Your leadership will directly influence project performance, workforce productivity, customer satisfaction, and successful project outcomes.

Purpose of the role

The Superintendent - Equipment/Rigging plays a critical role in this journey by leading and overseeing the safe, efficient, and sustainable delivery of equipment installation and rigging activities on industrial construction projects.

Working directly at the project site, the Superintendent - Equipment/Rigging is responsible for supervising and coordinating field operations, integrating field administration, subcontractor management, procurement coordination, and construction execution activities to ensure the successful delivery of projects. This role is essential in aligning day-to-day construction management with Worley’s strategic ambition to deliver innovative and sustainable solutions for our customers.

You will be responsible for

  • Leading, coordinating, and supervising all equipment installation, rigging, heavy haul, and lifting activities to ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved schedules and budgets.
  • Driving a proactive safety culture by ensuring compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements while promoting sustainable work practices.
  • Overseeing and integrating field administration, procurement coordination, subcontractor management, and field engineering activities to support project objectives.
  • Acting as a primary site contact for equipment installation and rigging execution, fostering strong communication between project teams, customers, contractors, suppliers, and stakeholders.
  • Providing leadership and technical guidance to supervisors, rigging personnel, equipment installation crews, crane operators, and subcontractors while promoting collaboration and accountability.
  • Managing lift planning activities, equipment setting strategies, critical lift reviews, and rigging operations to ensure safe and efficient execution.
  • Monitoring construction progress, evaluating project performance, and implementing corrective actions to mitigate risks and maintain project commitments.
  • Supporting the integration of sustainability-focused solutions into project delivery and identifying opportunities to enhance environmental and operational performance.
  • Collaborating closely with engineering, procurement, logistics, construction, and project management teams to optimize workflows and improve project execution.
  • Managing workforce planning, productivity, and resource allocation to ensure effective utilization of labor, lifting equipment, tools, and materials.
  • Ensuring equipment installation and rigging activities are completed in accordance with project specifications, engineering requirements, contractual obligations, regulatory standards, and company procedures.
  • Overseeing installation of rotating equipment, static equipment, vessels, modules, structural assemblies, and other major project components.
  • Supporting transportation planning, equipment receipt, staging, preservation, installation, alignment, and turnover activities.
  • Preparing and communicating construction progress reports, forecasts, productivity analyses, and performance updates to project leadership and stakeholders.
  • Identifying and resolving field-related challenges through practical and innovative solutions that support project objectives.
  • Promoting a respectful, diverse, and inclusive work environment where team members are empowered to contribute to project success.

  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline, or a trade qualification supported by extensive equipment installation and rigging leadership experience.
  • Proven experience supervising equipment installation, heavy lift, and rigging construction activities in industrial or large-scale construction environments.
  • Strong knowledge of equipment setting, rigging practices, lift planning, heavy haul logistics, field engineering practices, and construction management principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage construction schedules, workforce planning, productivity improvement, and resource allocation.
  • Experience overseeing critical lifts, major equipment installations, module placement, heavy transportation activities, and mechanical completion programs.
  • Strong understanding of lifting devices, rigging hardware, load calculations, equipment alignment, and industry standards governing crane and rigging activities.
  • Experience building collaborative relationships with customers, contractors, suppliers, equipment vendors, and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, interpersonal, and decision-making skills with the ability to influence positive project outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of safety leadership, quality management, environmental stewardship, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to evaluate complex challenges and deliver practical, value-driven outcomes.
  • Experience supporting sustainability initiatives, continuous improvement programs, and operational excellence efforts.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction systems, tools, processes, industry standards, and equipment installation best practices.
  • Experience managing equipment installation and rigging scopes within energy, chemicals, resources, LNG, refining, petrochemical, power generation, mining, or industrial construction sectors is highly desirable.
