Job summary

Hancock-Construction in Vestavia Hills, AL, is seeking a Construction Superintendent responsible for managing assigned projects from planning through completion, ensuring safety, quality, schedule, and profitability.

You will coordinate field activities, review plans and contracts, manage budgets and staffing, and maintain strong relationships with clients and subcontractors to deliver projects on time and to spec.

Responsibilities

  • Manage assigned projects from planning through completion, ensuring execution, quality, profitability, scheduling, and customer satisfaction.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee project activities to ensure safe, efficient work in line with contract documents, budgets, and regulatory requirements.
  • Review project plans, specifications, contracts, scopes of work, and other documents to understand requirements.
  • Develop, maintain, and manage schedules, budgets, manpower, and material/equipment needs.
  • Coordinate procurement and delivery of materials, tools, and information to maintain schedules.
  • Monitor costs including labor, materials, subcontractors, and extra work to stay within budgets and profitability goals.
  • Coordinate and supervise field activities and staffing to meet project requirements and quality standards.
  • Schedule and conduct project meetings; communicate with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, and stakeholders.
  • Identify and resolve construction issues and project challenges promptly.
  • Coordinate field installations, inspections, closeout activities, and other requirements for successful completion.
  • Prepare and maintain required project and contract administration documentation.
  • Develop positive relationships with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and project partners.
  • Collaborate with teams to improve construction methods, resolve issues, and support successful outcomes.
  • Ensure schedules are maintained by addressing manpower, material, equipment, and scheduling needs.
  • Ensure all work complies with company policies, safety requirements, quality standards, and regulations.
  • Promote accountability, professionalism, and quality workmanship; perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Manage assigned projects from initial planning through completion, with responsibility for project execution, quality, profitability, scheduling, and customer satisfaction.

Plan, coordinate, and oversee project activities to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contract documents, company standards, established budgets, schedules, and applicable regulatory requirements.

Review project plans, specifications, contracts, scopes of work, and other project documents to ensure a thorough understanding of project requirements.

Develop, maintain, and manage project schedules, budgets, manpower requirements, and material and equipment needs.

Coordinate the timely procurement and delivery of materials, tools, equipment, and project information necessary to maintain construction schedules.

Monitor project costs, including labor, materials, subcontractors, and additional or extra work, to ensure projects remain within established budgets and profitability goals.

Coordinate and oversee field activities, including employees and subcontractors, to ensure work is completed according to project requirements and quality standards.

Work closely with field supervisory personnel to determine appropriate staffing levels and manpower needs throughout the project.

Schedule, participate in, and/or conduct project meetings as required.

Communicate and coordinate with owners, owner representatives, architects, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, suppliers, and other project stakeholders.

Identify and resolve construction issues, conflicts, and project challenges in a timely and effective manner.

Coordinate field installations, inspections, project closeout activities, and other requirements necessary for successful project completion.

Prepare, manage, and maintain required project and contract administration documentation.

Develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and other project partners.

Work collaboratively with employees, supervisors, architects, engineers, subcontractors, inspectors, and suppliers to improve construction methods, resolve issues, and support successful project outcomes.

Ensure construction schedules are maintained by proactively addressing manpower, material, equipment, and scheduling needs.

Ensure all work is performed in accordance with company policies, procedures, safety requirements, quality standards, and applicable regulations.

Promote accountability, professionalism, and quality workmanship among employees and subcontractors.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical & Work Requirements

This position requires regular work in both office and active construction-site environments. The employee must be able to:

Spend a significant portion of the workday outdoors and on active construction sites.

Work in varying weather conditions, including periods of extreme heat and cold.

Stand and walk for extended periods.

Navigate uneven terrain and active construction areas.

Climb ladders and stairs and perform activities that may require balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.

Lift, carry, push, pull, or move materials and equipment weighing up to 70 pounds.

Safely perform the physical activities typically associated with construction-site supervision and project management.

The Superintendent is expected to demonstrate professionalism, sound judgment, accountability, and a commitment to the Company's standards of quality and customer service. This position requires proactive communication and coordination between field operations, management, clients, subcontractors, vendors, and other project stakeholders to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with established quality standards.
