Job summary

Ames Construction is seeking a seasoned Superintendent to lead on‑site activities for major projects in Florida. You will oversee crews, plan work sequences, and coordinate with clients, PMs, and vendors to keep schedules and budgets on track.

The role requires the ability to read blueprints and CAD drawings, manage multiple subcontractors, and enforce safety and quality standards on site. Travel to project locations is common, with long‑term assignments possible.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant construction‑related discipline.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in construction management; superintendent experience preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and acceptable MVR.
  • Possess an OSHA-30 certification and knowledge of OSHA safety requirements.
  • Strong project management skills with budgeting best‑in‑industry practices.
  • Ability to read blueprints, CAD drawings, design layouts and other construction documents.
  • Understanding of construction equipment and safe operating practices.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills.

  • Coordinates with clients, Project Managers and subcontractors to determine budget and timeline.
  • Coordinates materials and equipment delivery with vendors and suppliers.
  • Hires and assigns subcontractors and creates worker/subcontractor schedules.
  • Maintains a daily log for site operations and reports to management.
  • Ensures work meets safety and quality standards and adapts plans as needed.

The Superintendent is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all of the activities of a construction site according to project blueprints and schedule plans. Position duties include coordinating subcontractors, performing quality control, safety checks, and providing on‑site direction when preparing construction sites. This position is classified as "safety-sensitive."

Essential Functions
  • Manages a team of workers, including work schedules, project progress, and resource allocation
  • Creates cost estimates for labor, supplies, materials and other project costs
  • Collaborates with clients, Project Managers, other construction management to determine budget and timeline
  • Coordinates materials and equipment delivery with vendors and suppliers
  • Creates schedules for workers and subcontractors
  • Hires additional subcontractors and assign work accordingly
  • Maintains a daily log for the job site’s operations, reporting to management as necessary
  • Makes changes in the operation as necessary to best meet construction deadlines
  • Implements management techniques that are cost-effective and efficient
  • Collaborates with clients, project managers, vendors, subcontractors, inspectors and staff on site and others
  • Prevents scope "creep"
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant construction‑related discipline, such as construction management or engineering
  • A minimum five (5) years of experience in construction management. Superintendent experience highly preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and acceptable MVR
  • Possess an OSHA-30 certification and a thorough knowledge of OSHA safety requirements
  • Strong project management skills with knowledge of construction budgeting "best-in-industry" practices
  • Collaboration skills and the ability to maintain relationships with clients and crews
  • Ability to read blueprints, CAD drawings, design layouts and other construction documents
  • Understanding of construction equipment, including safe operating practices and maintenance
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office products (specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and quality management skills and the ability to problem solve, multitask, prioritize and work independently
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • Able to travel frequently and support long term assignments
  • Strong planning skills, including design execution, resource allocation, and contingencies
  • Effective leadership abilities, able to motivate team, set goals and resolve conflicts
  • Willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays if necessary
Working Conditions
  • Location – This project is located in Belle Glade, Florida. Subsequent projects may be nationally based.
  • Travel – This role will be expected to travel to project locations, sometimes nationally
  • Construction site environment – physical ability to stand, walk, crawl, bend, reach and climb. May be exposed to high noise levels.
