Job summary

DXI Construction is seeking a skilled Superintendent to plan, supervise and coordinate safe, efficient operations across multiple job sites in Sterling, VA. You will manage crews, adhere to budgets and schedules, enforce safety programs and ensure compliance with company standards.

Responsibilities include site inspections, coordinating equipment and labor, promoting teamwork, and driving cost-effective project management while maintaining quality and regulatory compliance across projects.

Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience in the construction field.
  • Must possess a valid state issued motor vehicle license.
  • Background in heavy construction incl. trenching, excavation, confined spaces, hazardous atmospheres and related equipment.
  • Able to direct and make financial decisions for the project.
  • Identify non-compliance and propose solutions for deficiencies.
  • Excellent communication and written skills.
  • Experience managing demanding clients and delivering creative solutions.
  • Proficient with Bluebeam/Adobe forms.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel; IPad/IPone usage.
  • Able to work in high-stress, changing outdoor environments.
  • Strong decision-making, negotiating and mentoring abilities.
  • Ability to work across varied outdoor conditions on active job sites.

Responsibilities

  • Travel between multiple job sites and manage workloads of multiple projects
  • Monitor work and materials to ensure quality control at various stages
  • Perform inspections to meet safety and compliance regulations at each location
  • Plan and organize work to maximize crew productivity and equipment utilization
  • Promote and enforce safety programs with field personnel and subcontractors
  • Establish staffing for each phase and arrange recruitment or assignment of personnel
  • Coordinate with operations on project equipment and labor needs
  • Supervise and foster teamwork, motivation and foreman development
  • Assist Foreman in crew management processes
  • Drive cost-effective project management techniques in the field
  • Ensure construction projects comply with company procedures and regulatory guidelines
  • Provide leadership, training and guidance
  • Resolve problems as they arise
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Job description

The Superintendent is responsible for planning and coordinating a safe, profitable and efficient operation on all assigned projects. The superintendent is responsible to supervise projects and manage crews efficiently within budget and schedule conducting all work in accordance with DXI policies and procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Takes a general inspection of the work, checks performances and safety measures
  • Follow project development processes to ensure that the project will complete on time
  • Travel between multiple job sites and simultaneously manage work loads of individual projects
  • Monitor work and materials to ensure quality control standards are met at various stages of the project
  • Perform inspections to meet the varying safety and compliance regulations of each job location
  • Plans and organizes work to maximize crew productivity, maximizes equipment utilization levels by ensuring availability and operator effectiveness. Coordinates with project manager on the project needs for equipment and labor.
  • Promotes and enforces corporate safety program with field personnel and subcontractors and reviews safety plans for scheduled work. Communicates safety expectations field, including documentation, safety violations, accidents and preventative measures.
  • Establishes work plan and staffing for each phase of project and arranges for recruitment or assignment of project personnel to specific responsibilities.
  • Coordinates with operations on the project needs for equipment and labor
  • Supervises, maintains communication and encourages, promotes teamwork, motivation, and development of foreman
  • Assists Foreman in the management process of crews.
  • Drive cost-effective project management techniques and strategies in the field
  • Responsible to ensure that construction projects are performed in accordance with company procedures, as well as safety, environmental and other regulatory guidelines and mandates
  • Provides leadership, training and guidance
  • Resolve problems when they arise
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
Qualifications / Required Skills
  • 5 years of experience in the construction field
  • Possess a valid state issued motor vehicle license
  • Must possess a background in heavy construction such as trenching and excavation, confined spaces, hazardous atmospheres including grading, excavation and earth moving, and the equipment used to complete these tasks
  • Able to give direction and make decisions related to finances, the company’s reputation and crewmembers
  • Keen eye to identify non-compliance with regulations or standards and ability to suggest solutions for deficiencies or problems
  • Excellent communication and written skills
  • Experience with managing demanding clients and offering creative solutions to meet commitments and requests
  • Ability to fill out forms electronically Bluebeam / Adobe
  • Microsoft Word, Excel and ability to use an IPad and IPhone
  • Ability to work in high-stress conditions and quickly changing environments
  • Excellent decision making, compromising and mediating skills
  • The ability to work in varied outdoor conditions that will vary but will include physically walking over jobsites in different stages of construction. This may mean wet and dry conditions and hot and cold conditions during the day and night
