Role Description

The Superintendent is a full-time, on-site role based in San Luis Obispo, CA, responsible for managing day-to-day field operations on construction projects. This role oversees site activities, coordinates subcontractors and suppliers, and ensures work is completed safely, on schedule, and in accordance with project plans, specifications, and quality standards. The Superintendent leads daily briefings, monitors progress, resolves on-site issues, and collaborates closely with project managers, design teams, and clients. Responsibilities include enforcing safety protocols, managing inspections, maintaining accurate documentation and logs, and tracking materials and equipment usage. The role also supports schedule updates, change management, and continuous communication with stakeholders to keep the project aligned with budget, timelines, and Suffolk’s performance expectations.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in construction field supervision, including managing subcontractors, coordinating trades, and overseeing daily site activities.


• Strong knowledge of construction methods, building codes, safety regulations, and quality control practices, particularly for complex commercial or institutional projects.


• Proficiency in construction management software, digital field tools, and basic computer skills to handle documentation, scheduling, and reporting.


• Effective communication, leadership, and conflict-resolution skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and interact professionally with clients and partners.


• Proven ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and technical documents, and to identify constructability issues or risks on site.


• Commitment to safety, with experience implementing site safety plans, conducting toolbox talks, and promoting a culture of safety and compliance.


• Relevant experience in general contracting or construction management; experience with projects in healthcare, education, or advanced technology sectors is a plus.


• High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate or bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field is preferred.


• Ability to work full-time on site in San Luis Obispo, CA
