The Role
The Mission Critical Center of Excellence manages billions of dollars in projects annually, specializing in data center and mission-critical construction for leading technology and telecommunications clients across the United States. The group focuses on fast-paced, MEP-intensive projects and offers significant opportunities for career advancement within the mission-critical construction industry.
The Superintendent is responsible for overseeing and managing all day-to-day job site activities, including project team performance, site conditions, safety and quality standards, compliance with scope, and effective management of trade partners.
Responsibilities
- Oversee, manage, and document all day-to-day job site activities including OSHA safety compliance
- Direct field personnel according to the project plan and Suffolk supervisory principles
- Communicate issues, events, performance, and progress daily to the Project Manager
- Report any problems promptly to the Project Manager to facilitate the most cost-effective solutions
- Establish effective working relationships with clients and Suffolk team members
- Request advice and assistance from the General Superintendent on materials, sequencing, scheduling and personnel
- Identify pre-mobilization activities in conjunction with the Project Executive, General Superintendent, and the Project Manager
- Develop start-up schedule with Project Manager and send it to the Project Executive and General Superintendent for review
- Assist in formulating and implementing construction schedules in the field
- Establish and implement the Project Baseline Schedule based on the project contracts and subcontractor input
- Maintain the schedule and ensure work aligns with the contract and client expectations
- Provide progress reports with a two-week look ahead of schedule to the Project Manager and field staff
- Ensure subcontractors participate in safety pre-construction meetings
- Ensure subcontractors have full safety documentation, site safety plans, and current insurance where applicable
- Review the project daily to ensure activities comply with OSHA and site safety plan
- Review safety reports and injury data to assess safety performance
- Ensure projects are budgeted and staffed to support safety programs
- Communicate clear safety expectations to project teams
- Perform safety inspections using predictive solutions software in line with Suffolk safety program
- Adhere to all Suffolk Safety program requirements
- Ensure pertinent benchmarks are established in the baseline schedule
- Involve appropriate individuals in the Q-Team
- Coordinate first delivery and benchmark inspections as per schedule
- Ensure inspections are approved, documented, and communicated
- Manage site pre-construction activities including surveys, utilization and staging plans
- Mobilize the field office and maintain the job site to Suffolk standards
- Organize documentation of the site for easy access and review
- Manage subcontractor performance to quality and ethical standards
- Collaborate with PM to identify and resolve personnel issues and process revisions
- Manage all phases of construction, documenting progress and site activities
- Attend project turnover, mobilization, and coordination meetings
- Attend or chair safety pre-construction meetings
- Attend or chair weekly foreman and safety meetings
- Attend or chair monthly schedule review meetings
- Attend closeout meetings and owner meetings
- Chair subcontractor meetings as needed to monitor and manage the project
- Complete and implement construction office checklists
- Prepare daily reports and maintain logs of key activities and drawings
- Manage material deliveries and safety reporting
- Ensure accurate as-built drawings and drawing logs are maintained
- Manage subcontractor closeout, transfer of utilities, owner training, punch lists, and work lists
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in an applicable discipline or relevant project experience
- 4+ years of experience in related construction fields
- Ability to manage and embrace change; adapt to new processes
- Applicable area licenses
