The role requires coordinating multiple trades, maintaining schedule, and collaborating with government representatives, project management, QC, and safety teams to ensure successful completion.

Qualifications

• Strong superintendent experience in federal construction.
• Experience with VA, USACE, NAVFAC, DoD or similarly structured federal projects.
• Recent experience supervising projects of $7M+.
• Experience with phased renovation in an active hospital/medical environment.
• Experience coordinating multiple subcontractors and trades in an occupied facility.
• Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications and contracts.
• Strong field leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day field operations and field supervision on site.
• Coordinate subcontractors and trades to maintain the project schedule.
• Maintain project schedule and report progress to project management, QC, safety, and government reps.
• Plan/phasing and coordinate construction activities around ongoing facility operations.
• Read and interpret plans, specifications and contract documents.

Butterfly Staffing is recruiting an experienced Construction Superintendent with strong federal construction experience for a major renovation project at the VA Medical Center in Salem, Virginia.

This project involves phased construction within an active medical environment, with work across multiple trades including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, communications, fire suppression, carpentry, demolition and site work.

The Superintendent will be responsible for day-to-day field operations, coordinating subcontractors and trades, maintaining the project schedule, and working closely with project management, quality control, safety and government representatives throughout construction.

What We're Looking For

• Strong Superintendent experience in federal construction
• Experience with VA, USACE, NAVFAC, DoD or similarly structured federal construction projects
• Recent experience supervising projects of comparable size and complexity, including projects valued at $7M+
• Experience with phased renovation in an active hospital, medical center or patient care environment
• Experience coordinating multiple subcontractors and trades in an occupied facility
• Strong understanding of federal construction requirements, field documentation, inspections, scheduling and coordination
• Experience planning and coordinating shutdowns, phasing and construction activities around ongoing facility operations
• Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications and contract documents
• Strong field leadership, communication and problem-solving skills

The Project

• The work includes phased construction involving demolition, earthwork, carpentry, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, communications and fire suppression within an operating VA Medical Center.
• Because the facility will remain active during construction, experience coordinating work around ongoing medical operations is particularly important.
