Amida Group is seeking an experienced Mine Superintendent to lead underground development and production across a long-life copper operation in Southern Africa, with FIFO from Australia.

This senior role requires strong leadership, safety discipline and proven ability to drive schedules, contractor management and expanding mining areas while maintaining high performance and culture.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Mine Superintendent or senior underground leader.
  • Extensive mechanised hard-rock underground mining experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience with sub-level open stoping is mandatory.
  • Experience working in Africa or similar culturally diverse mining environments.
  • Ability to lead and develop national workforces with cultural awareness.
  • Track record in supporting new mine development or major expansions.
  • Strong knowledge of underground development, drill and blast, backfill and ventilation.
  • Experience managing mining contractors and owner/contractor operations.
  • Strong safety record and disciplined operating standards.
  • Relevant mining qualifications and demonstrated operational competency.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor and develop supervisors and national workforce.
  • Foster a high-performance culture with accountability and cross-cultural leadership.

Mine Superintendent – Underground Operations

Southern Africa | FIFO from Australia | 6 Weeks On / 3 Weeks Off

An excellent opportunity is available for an experienced Mine Superintendent to join a long-life underground copper operation in Southern Africa as it enters a major phase of mine expansion and production growth.

This senior site-based position will lead underground mining activities across development and production, with responsibility for delivering safe and consistent performance while supporting the transition into new mining areas.

Key responsibilities
  • Lead the safe execution of underground development and production activities.
  • Manage daily and weekly performance against mine plans, production targets, budgets and key operational KPIs.
  • Provide visible leadership across underground operations, ensuring critical controls and safe work practices are consistently applied.
  • Oversee sub-level open stoping activities, including development, production drilling, blasting, bogging, ground support and backfill coordination.
  • Work closely with Technical Services to improve mine scheduling, stope sequencing, development priorities, dilution control and ore recovery.
  • Manage mining contractors and hold operational teams accountable for safety, productivity, equipment utilisation and cost performance.
  • Support the development of new mining areas and the operational requirements associated with a significant mine expansion.
  • Coordinate effectively with Maintenance, Geology, Geotechnical, Ventilation, Processing and Project teams.
  • Mentor and develop supervisors, technical personnel and the national workforce.
  • Build a high-performance culture based on accountability, respect and effective cross-cultural leadership.
  • Identify operational risks, remove production constraints and implement sustainable improvement initiatives.
  • Proven experience as a Mine Superintendent, Underground Operations Superintendent or in a comparable senior underground leadership position.
  • Extensive experience in mechanised hard-rock underground mining.
  • Strong practical experience with sub-level open stoping is mandatory.
  • Previous experience working in Africa or a comparable culturally diverse international mining environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop national workforces with cultural awareness, patience and respect.
  • Direct experience supporting a new mine development, major expansion, production ramp-up or the introduction of new underground mining areas.
  • Strong understanding of underground development, drill and blast, production scheduling, backfill, ventilation, ground control and mobile fleet performance.
  • Experience managing mining contractors and working across owner and contractor operating structures.
  • A strong safety record and the ability to establish disciplined operating standards.
  • Relevant mining qualifications and demonstrated operational competency appropriate to a senior underground leadership role.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Employment conditions
  • Point of hire: Australia
  • Roster: Six weeks on / three weeks off
  • International FIFO travel provided from the agreed Australian point of hire
  • Site accommodation and meals provided while on rotation
