Job summary

Assuncao Brothers, Inc. (ABI) seeks a Concrete Superintendent to lead field execution on assigned projects. You will provide day-to-day direction to foremen and crews, ensuring safety, productivity, and adherence to plans and specifications.

You will coordinate with project management, monitor schedules, and maintain quality control while developing field leadership and teamwork across the crew. This role is on-site with travel as needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of seven years of concrete construction experience, with prior experience as Foreman, Superintendent, or comparable field leadership position preferred.
  • Extensive experience with concrete construction, including heavy highway, bridge, structural concrete, retaining walls, formwork, curb, sidewalk, and other public/DOT concrete work.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising foreman and field crews.
  • Strong understanding of concrete construction methods, formwork, reinforcing, placement, finishing, curing, and quality requirements.
  • Experience working in a union construction environment preferred.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret construction plans, drawings, specifications, schedules, and contract documents.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and direction for field operations on assigned projects.
  • Direct and support foremen in planning and execution of daily and weekly work activities.
  • Ensure concrete work is performed per plans, specs, contract requirements, codes, and ABI standards.
  • Coordinate sequencing and execution of concrete operations (formwork, reinforcing, placement, finishing, curing, walls, foundations).
  • Maintain a strong field presence and proactively identify and resolve issues affecting safety, productivity, quality, or schedule.
  • Establish clear expectations and hold crews accountable for performance.
  • Coordinate with project management regarding field conditions and upcoming work.

PositionPurpose:TheConcreteSuperintendentisresponsiblefortheoverallfieldexecutionofassignedprojectsforAssuncaoBrothers,Inc.(ABI).Thispositionprovidesday-to-dayleadershipanddirectiontoForemenandfieldcrewstoensureworkisperformedsafely,efficiently,productively,andinaccordancewithprojectplans,specifications,schedules,qualitystandards,andcontractualrequirements.

TheSuperintendentservesasthekeyfieldleaderandliaisonbetweenprojectmanagement,foremen,fieldemployees,subcontractors,andotherprojectstakeholders.Thepositionisresponsibleforcoordinatingmanpower,equipment,materials,sequencing,andfieldoperationswhilemaintainingastrongfocusonsafety,quality,productivity,scheduleperformance,andworkforcedevelopment.

TheSuperintendentisexpectedtoleadbyexample,developstrongforemenandcrews,anticipatefieldneedsandchallenges,andcreateanenvironmentofaccountability,teamwork,andcontinuousimprovement.

Responsibilities:

ProjectExecution
  • Provideoverallleadershipanddirectionforfieldoperationsonassignedprojects.
  • Directandsupportforemenintheplanningandexecutionofdailyandweeklyworkactivities.
  • Ensureconcreteworkisperformedinaccordancewithprojectplans,specifications,contractrequirements,applicablecodes,andABIstandards.
  • Coordinatethesequencingandexecutionofconcreteoperations,includingformwork,reinforcing,placement,finishing,curing,walls,structures,foundations,curb,sidewalk,andotherapplicableconcretework.
  • Maintainastrongfieldpresenceandproactivelyidentifyandresolveissuesthatcouldaffectsafety,productivity,quality,orschedule.
  • EstablishclearexpectationsforForemenandfieldcrewsandholdteammembersaccountableforperformance.
  • Coordinatewithprojectmanagersandotherprojectleadershipregardingfieldconditions,projectpriorities,upcomingwork,andrequiredsupport.

  • Planandcoordinatefieldmanpowerrequirementsbasedonprojectschedules,productiongoals,crewcapabilities,andupcomingwork.

  • PartnerwithOperations,Payroll,andHumanResourcesonunionworkforcematterswhenadditionalinterpretation,administration,oremployeerelationssupportisrequired.
SafetyLeadership
  • Makesafetyplanninganintegralpartoffieldoperationsandreinforceacultureinwhichemployeestakeresponsibilityfortheirownsafetyandthesafetyofthosearoundthem.
  • LeadbyexampleandensureForemenconsistentlyreinforceABI'ssafetyexpectations.
  • Participateinpre-planningactivitiestoidentifyproject-specifichazardsandappropriatecontrolsbeforeworkbegins.
  • Ensurerequiredpersonalprotectiveequipment,safetyprocedures,andproject-specificrequirementsarefollowed.
  • Ensureappropriatetoolboxtalks,jobhazardanalyses/pre-taskplanning,inspections,andrequiredsafetydocumentationarecompleted.
  • Stoporcorrectunsafeworkpracticesandpromptlyaddressunsafeconditions.
  • Participateinincident,accident,andnear-missreviewsandassistwithidentifyingrootcausesandimplementingcorrectiveactions.
  • Collaboratewithcompanysafety/riskpersonnelandprojectleadershiptocontinuouslyimprovefieldsafetyperformance.

ProjectSchedules&Productivity
  • Understandtheoverallprojectscheduleandtranslateprojectmilestonesintoactionableshort-termfieldplans.
  • DevelopandcommunicatedailyandweeklyworkplanswithForemenandprojectmanagement.
  • Monitorfieldprogressagainstschedule,productiongoals,estimatedquantities,andplannedlaborhours.
  • Identifypotentialdelays,constraints,orproductivityissuesearlyandcommunicatethemtoprojectleadership.
  • Recommendandimplementadjustmentstosequencing,crewsize,meansandmethods,orresourceallocationtoimproveproductivityandmaintainschedule.
  • Ensurefieldactivitiesareappropriatelyplannedbeforecrewsbeginworktominimizedowntimeandunnecessarylabororequipmentcosts.
QualityControl
  • Ensureworkiscompletedinaccordancewithplans,specifications,approvedsubmittals,tolerances,andapplicableindustrystandards.
  • Reviewplans,drawings,specifications,andotherprojectdocumentstoensurefieldteamsunderstandprojectrequirements.
  • Conductregularfieldinspectionsandverifyworkisproperlylaidout,formed,reinforced,placed,finished,andcured.
  • Identifyqualityconcernsearlyandtakeappropriatecorrectiveaction.
  • Coordinaterequiredtesting,inspections,anddocumentationwithprojectmanagementandappropriatethirdparties.
  • Promotea"builditrightthefirsttime"approachtominimizereworkandprotectprojectscheduleandprofitability.
Equipment&MaterialCoordination
  • Forecastequipment,material,andsupplyneedsbasedonupcomingwork.
  • Coordinateequipmentrequirementsandutilizationwithprojectmanagementandcompanyoperations.
  • Ensureequipmentisappropriatelyutilized,maintained,andreturnedorreassignedwhennolongerrequired.
  • Coordinateconcretedeliveries,reinforcingsteel,forms,embeds,materials,andothersuppliesnecessarytosupportplannedproduction.
  • Identifypotentialmaterialorequipmentconstraintsearlyenoughtoavoiddisruptiontofieldoperations.
Documentation
  • Ensureaccurateandtimelycompletionofrequiredfielddocumentation,includingdailyreports,timekeeping,productioninformation,safetydocumentation,equipmentusage,quantities,andotherrequiredrecords.
  • Reviewforemen'sdailyreportsandtimerecordsforcompletenessandaccuracy.
  • Ensureemployeeclassifications,hoursworked,costcodes,andotherrequiredpayrollinformationareaccuratelyreported,particularlyonprevailingwageandpublicworkprojects.
  • Promptlycommunicatechangedconditions,delays,extrawork,owner/contractordirectives,orpotentialscopechangestotheProjectManager.
  • AssistprojectmanagementinmaintainingappropriatedocumentationtoprotectABI'scontractualandfinancialinterests.
  • ParticipateinprojectmeetingsasrequiredandcommunicaterelevantinformationbacktoForemenandfieldemployees.

Qualifications&Skills
