Job summary

Welkin Mechanical is seeking a Superintendent to lead heavy mechanical construction projects on site in New York. You will supervise the field labor force, manage work plans, and coordinate with the Project Manager to deliver projects on time and within budget.

You will review contracts, maintain client relationships, and ensure safety and quality through inspections, testing, and look-ahead scheduling. A 4-year engineering degree or equivalent experience and OSHA 30 or related certifications

Responsibilities

  • Direct day to day on-site supervision of field labor force.
  • Inspect contractor or subcontractor operations for contract compliance.
  • Review and approve trade contractor payment applications with PM.
  • Maintain relationships with Owner/Architect/Engineer representatives.
  • Develop and maintain site logistics/work plans, safety procedures, and quality plans.
  • Conduct quality inspections and coordinate site testing/inspections.
  • Monitor costs, including labor time and materials.
  • Demonstrate commitment to an Injury-Free Environment and mentor others.
  • Manage schedules with short-term look-ahead planning.
  • Prepare Superintendent's Daily Reports and attend project meetings.
  • Supervise project engineers and ensure coordination.

The Superintendent manages heavy mechanical construction projects by leading the planning and development of all project deliverables. The Superintendent is responsible for managing the workforce, work plans, and logistic procedures. The Superintendent will work with the Project Manager to deliver the project on time and in accordance with the contract plans/specifications while keeping under budget.

II. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS
  • 4-year degree in Engineering or related field (or equivalent years’ experience).
  • Certifications preferred: OSHA 30, DOB SST, DOB Superintendent license.
III. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Direct day today on-site supervision of field labor force.
  • Inspection of Contractor or Subcontractor operations to ensure compliance with contract.
  • Review and approve Trade Contractor Payment Applications with Project Manager.
  • Maintain good relationships with internal and external clients, including representatives of Owner and Architect/Engineer.
  • Develop and maintain site logistics/work plans, safety procedures (JHAs), quality work plans, etc. in coordination with Project Manager.
  • Conduct quality inspections.
  • Coordinate site testing and inspection efforts.
  • Monitor costs, including labor time and material.
  • Demonstrate commitment to an Injury-Free Environment through personal actions and mentoring others.
  • Manage schedules, including preparation of detailed short-term schedules and ensuring all activities take place on or ahead of scheduled dates.
  • Create and update two/four/six-week look-ahead schedules.
  • Prepare and submit Superintendent's Daily Reports.
  • Attend and participate in project meetings, including subcontractor meetings.
  • Supervise the work of project engineers and field engineers and ensure coordination.
IV. QUALIFICATIONS OF THE POSITION
  • 10+ years of Heavy Mechanical Construction experience.
  • Familiarity with terms and conditions of Project Contracts, Subcontracts, and Purchase Orders.
  • Ability to read and comprehend construction drawings and specifications for all disciplines of work.
  • Computer knowledge and efficiency, including Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exhibits strong leadership qualities.
  • Willingness to coordinate and work in a team environment.
  • Strong decision making/problem solving skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Must be safety oriented.
