About North Shore Central School District

The North Shore Central School District, located on the north shore of Long Island’s Nassau County and within commuting distance of New York City, is a nationally recognized district known for its personalized and innovative approach to education, commitment to each child’s holistic development, and pursuit of educational excellence.

The district offers many opportunities for students to pursue academic, artistic, and athletic interests. North Shore serves approximately 2,550 students across three elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school.

The North Shore Schools’ Board of Education seeks an exceptional educational leader who will build upon the district’s strong foundation, embrace its shared values, and inspire continued growth and excellence.

This is a unique opportunity to join a highly engaged and supportive school community and lead an already outstanding district into its next chapter.

We invite your interest in this role and/or your assistance in sharing this opportunity with other outstanding candidates.

District Strengths

Staff and community members have identified the following key strengths of North Shore Schools:

  • Tight-Knit and Supportive Community: Staff and families foster pride and connection in a district with a “private school feel.”
  • Dedicated Staff and Leadership: Excellent and highly dedicated teachers, leadership team, and support staff are invested in the success and well-being of students and one another.
  • Student Opportunities and Learning Culture: Robust academic offerings, including IB and AP courses, complement a variety of student-centered programs in the arts, athletics, and clubs.
  • Culture of Collaboration: All segments of the educational community work together to ensure that each student is seen and known.

The next Superintendent will be expected to address two important challenges identified through staff and community engagement:

  • An Uncertain Financial Future: A power plant located within the district may cease generating tax revenue, while a proposed project by Propel may cause operational disruptions and impact the broader community.
  • Creating a Unifying Vision: Bringing administrators, faculty, and staff together around a shared direction for the district’s future.
Superintendent Leadership Qualifications

Following extensive staff and community engagement, the North Shore Schools’ Board of Education has approved the following specifications for its Superintendent search.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to advance educational programs, manage district finances, plan for an uncertain financial future, communicate effectively with a high-expectation community, and unify the district around a shared vision.

The ideal candidate will be:

  • An Experienced and Inclusive Administrator: An energetic, confident, and inclusive leader who appreciates the uniqueness of North Shore Schools, builds upon the district’s strengths and shared values, and consistently places students at the forefront of decision-making.
  • An Ethical and Collaborative Leader: A courageous, honest, transparent, and collaborative professional who approaches all situations with integrity and professionalism.
  • An Inspirational and Innovative Educator: A leader committed to continuous improvement who encourages creativity throughout the district and understands how curriculum, instructional practices, and assessments affect student learning.
  • A Visible and Approachable Team Builder: An accessible leader who fosters strong relationships, builds trust, empowers staff, and connects productively with all segments of the educational community.
  • A Strategic and Forward-Thinking Systems Leader: A professional who anticipates challenges, articulates a clear vision for the district’s future, and communicates clearly and proactively.
  • A Skilled Financial Steward: An adaptive administrator with expertise in budget development and management, the ability to maximize resources, and the capacity to engage the community in long-range financial planning.
