Job description

As our company continues to grow, we’re looking to add another key member to our team.

This role exists to support our crews, keep projects organized, solve problems early, and help us deliver the best work possible. We’re looking for someone who can help connect the dots between our crews, projects, equipment, customers, vendors, and office — and take ownership of the countless day-to-day details that keep a grading and excavation company moving.

This is not a “stand around and tell people what to do” position. We already have experienced people in the field who know how to do their jobs. We want someone who respects that experience, works alongside our team, removes obstacles, communicates well, and helps our people be successful.

A big part of this position is simple: catch problems, questions, and loose ends before they have to make their way all the way to the owner.

Site Superintendent
Top Tier Grading Company
Where We Work

Our shop is located in Baraboo, Wisconsin , and the majority of our projects are located within approximately an hour of our shop.

Our typical service area stretches from the Wisconsin Dells and Mauston area east toward Madison and into the Dousman and Waukesha areas . The majority of our work is concentrated in Dane County and the surrounding areas .

This position will involve regular travel between active job sites, our shop, and project-related meetings, so applicants should be comfortable traveling throughout our service area and visiting different projects as needed.

What You'll Do
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for day-to-day field questions, coordination, and problems.
  • Support our field crews and make sure they have what they need to keep moving.
  • Help coordinate daily and weekly crew schedules across multiple projects.
  • Coordinate equipment moves and make sure the right equipment is in the right place at the right time.
  • Communicate with general contractors, developers, inspectors, suppliers, subcontractors, trucking companies, and other project contacts.
  • Look ahead at upcoming work and help make sure crews, equipment, materials, trucking, subcontractors, and other resources are lined up before they're needed.
  • Help manage equipment maintenance and preventive service schedules.
  • Take ownership when equipment breaks down — coordinate repairs, order or pick up parts, schedule mechanics or field service, and help get equipment back online as quickly as possible.
  • Coordinate material orders, deliveries, trucking, and other job-site logistics.
  • Visit active projects regularly and identify issues before they become emergencies.
  • Help organize information between the field and office so things don't fall through the cracks.
  • Follow up on loose ends and make sure problems actually get resolved.
  • Jump into equipment or help in the field occasionally when it makes sense.
  • Make reasonable day-to-day decisions independently while knowing when something truly needs to be escalated to the owner.
What This Role Is — and Isn't

We want to be very intentional about this position.

Our Site Superintendent is not being hired to come in and suddenly become the boss of a group of experienced people.

This person is here to support the team .

You'll earn respect by being useful — staying organized, communicating, solving problems, following through, getting people what they need, and making everyone's day run a little smoother.

Sometimes leadership means making a decision. Other times it means asking one of our experienced operators or crew members, “What do you need from me?" and then making it happen.

We're looking for someone without a big ego who understands that good field leadership is about helping good people do their jobs.

Who We're Looking For

The right person is:

  • Extremely organized and dependable.
  • A strong communicator.
  • Proactive rather than reactive.
  • Comfortable juggling a lot of moving pieces.
  • Calm when plans change or something goes wrong.
  • Able to make decisions without needing constant direction.
  • Humble enough to ask questions and lean on the experience of the people around them.
  • Good at working with different personalities.
  • Someone who follows through when they say they're going to handle something.
  • Willing to jump in wherever they're needed.
  • Someone who genuinely enjoys solving problems and helping other people succeed.

Experience in grading, excavation, underground utilities, site development, heavy civil construction, or equipment operations is strongly preferred, but we aren't necessarily looking for the person who knows the most about dirt.

We're looking for someone with the organization, judgment, communication skills, work ethic, and personality to become an important part of our team.

Compensation & Benefits

This is a full-time salaried position , with compensation based on experience and what you can bring to the role.

Our benefits package includes:

  • Competitive salary
  • Health insurance
  • Dental insurance
  • Vision insurance
  • 401(k)
  • Life insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Paid holidays
  • Weekly pay
  • Company truck or truck allowance
  • Company phone or phone allowance
  • Performance-based bonus opportunities

We believe in taking care of the people who help us build and grow the company. Our goal is to provide a competitive compensation and benefits package while creating an environment where good people can build a long-term career.

The Opportunity

We're growing, we're busy, and we're building something we're proud of.

With that growth comes a need for better communication, coordination, and support around the people already doing great work for us.

That's why we're creating this position.

If you're someone who likes construction but also enjoys organizing, communicating, solving problems, helping people, and keeping a lot of moving pieces pointed in the same direction , this could be a really unique opportunity.

If you're the person everyone seems to call when there's a problem on the job site, we'd like to talk to you.
