Job summary

Jobtailor in Louisville, KY seeks a seasoned Highway Construction Superintendent to plan, supervise, and document large-scale civil projects.

You will lead field Foremen, coordinate with the Project Manager, review plans, and ensure safety, quality, and on-time delivery across roads, drainage, utilities, and site development.

Qualifications

• BS or AS in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent preferred.
• 3 years’ experience as a Superintendent in highway construction.
• 7+ years of hands-on highway construction experience.
• Knowledge of mass earth movement, large dirt excavations, grading operations, hauling and placement of transported materials, sediment controls, and utility construction preferred.
• Knowledge of highway construction project scope and objectives.
• Ability to read and understand plans.
• Strong knowledge and experience interpreting drawings and project specifications.
• Experience scheduling and planning highway construction work.
• Previous experience operating excavators, dozers, backhoes, and other construction equipment strongly preferred.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills.
• Experience working in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide planning, supervision, and documentation for heavy civil construction, including roads, highways, drainage, utilities, and site development.
• Lead safety, scheduling, workforce planning, coordination, supervision, and cost control.
• Directly supervise and coordinate field Foremen in highway construction.
• Plan, schedule, coordinate, sequence, and monitor procurement and construction activities with the Project Manager.
• Direct project personnel regarding professional standards, work quality, performance, and accountability.
• Review drawings, specifications, and subcontractor submittals.
• Monitor and manage project budgets and authorize expenditures with the Project Manager.
• Coordinate with site foremen to identify and resolve scheduling conflicts, needs, and deficiencies involving crews and subcontractors.
• Ensure coordination of construction activities.
• Communicate safety policies and procedures and identify crew safety-training needs.
• Assess foremen and employee competency and capability.
• Recognize and address issues and problems and provide effective resolutions.
