Job summary

Griffin Fluid Management in Kenilworth, NJ is hiring an experienced Superintendent to lead dewatering projects from conception to completion. You will manage personnel, materials, and equipment, ensuring safety, quality, and adherence to procedures.

The role requires extensive field knowledge of deep well and wellpoint systems, plus strong leadership to coordinate crews. The position is on-site with potential local travel; compensation includes a competitive hourly rate and benefits.

Qualifications

  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.
  • Pass required drug screening and background check.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in construction, drilling, dewatering, or groundwater control.
  • Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
  • OSHA 30 Certification.
  • TWIC Card.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated experience managing construction and/or drilling crews.

Responsibilities

  • Complete daily reporting and project paperwork with accuracy.
  • Set daily project progress goals aligned with labor budgets.
  • Ensure work safety, follow site procedures, and use PPE.
  • Assist Operations Manager in recruiting and training staff.
  • Safely operate tools and heavy equipment as required.
  • Travel locally or out of town as project demands.
  • Work Monday–Friday with occasional Saturdays; 40+ hrs local, 60 hrs out-of-town.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Superintendent to lead dewatering projects from conception to completion. In this role, you'll leverage your deep understanding of dewatering systems and project execution to manage personnel, materials, and equipment safely and efficiently. You'll oversee the installation and removal of complex dewatering systems, ensuring every project meets our high standards for safety, quality, and professionalism.


Technical Expertise Required

Deep Well Systems

You'll manage the installation and operation of sophisticated deep well systems, including:



  • Operating Gus Pech Bucket Rigs and similar drilling equipment to install wells

  • Setting submersible pumps (2HP to 30HP) using pump hoists

  • Fusing HDPE pipe (6" to 24" diameter) for header and discharge lines

  • Interconnecting specialized fittings including butterfly valves, check valves, well seals, and flow meters

  • Managing hose systems (2" to 8" diameter) from well to header pipe


Wellpoint Systems

You'll oversee the complete lifecycle of wellpoint systems, including:



  • Operating excavators with jet tube attachments to install wellpoints

  • Setting vacuum units, headers, and discharge systems using heavy equipment (telehandlers, skid steers, excavators)


Key Responsibilities


  • Complete all daily reporting and project-specific paperwork with accuracy and attention to detail

  • Set daily project progress goals aligned with labor budgets and report progress or issues to the Operations Manager

  • Ensure all work is performed safely, site safety procedures are followed, proper PPE is utilized, and all work complies with Griffin's Standard Operating Procedures

  • Assist the Operations Manager in recruiting, training, and maintaining an effective, engaged workforce

  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, pumps, fusing machines, and electrical equipment

  • Safely operate diesel-powered hydraulic lifting equipment

  • Maintain orderliness and organization of project sites as it pertains to Griffin operations

  • Follow directives accurately and efficiently

  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and co-workers

  • Travel occasionally throughout the year as project demands require

  • Work Monday-Friday with occasional Saturdays, locally or out of town

  • Maintain 40+ hours per week for local work; 60 hours per week for out-of-town assignments


Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications


  • Prior dewatering experience with various methodologies

  • Water well drilling experience with multiple drilling methods

  • State drilling licenses

  • Commercial Driver's License (Class A or B)

  • College degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or Geology


Physical Demands

This position requires sustained physical activity in demanding outdoor conditions:



  • Ability to frequently lift 50 pounds or more

  • Capability to load, unload, and move large equipment and tools

  • Continuous walking, stair climbing, and lifting throughout the workday

  • Full range of physical motions associated with general labor work

  • Tolerance for prolonged exposure to all outdoor weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold

  • Tolerance for noise and fumes generated from motorized equipment


Compensation & Benefits

Hourly Rate

Minimum $35 per hour, dependent on experience and skills


Out-of-Town Support


  • 100% company-paid hotel accommodations while working out of town

  • $60 daily per diem for meals and incidentals while out of town


Equipment & Apparel Provided


  • Complete safety equipment issued (hard hat, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, high-visibility vest)

  • High-visibility shirts, sweatshirts, and jackets provided

  • Partial reimbursement available for steel-toed boots
