Position Purpose
The Superintendent for Metro Traffic Solutions (MTS) directs and supervises field personnel in the successful completion of jobs.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Employee shall perform all duties and responsibilities with Sunland's Core Values at the forefront.
- Supervise Foreman and Assistant Superintendents; indirectly oversee field personnel.
- Ensure jobs are completed on schedule, within budget, and meet customer's expectations.
- Manage B2W time management, ensuring cost, time, material, fuel, and equipment are entered properly.
- Serve as a safety ambassador by complying with federal, state, and local laws, as well as Company safety policy.
- Foster a safety culture that promotes and enforces safe work practices and proactively identifies and remedies job‑site hazards.
- Set the production schedule along with the Production Manager and General Superintendent.
- Establish, coordinate, review, manage, and adjust all ongoing production activities and methods for completion of jobs.
- Ensure that all major department projects have pre‑construction conferences scheduled and held.
- Collaborate with Production Manager, General Superintendent, and Project Manager to ensure resources (human, material, and equipment) are properly managed, utilized, and accurately accounted for.
- Develop and modify work processes to ensure the highest standards for quality, productivity, and profitability.
- Attend bid reviews and pre‑construction conferences.
- Apply for/pull any needed permits for project start‑up.
- Make certain that all jobs are reviewed and correctly laid out before crews arrive on site.
- Develop and maintain quality controls.
- Represent the Company and interact professionally with customers, vendors, subcontractors, and the public.
- Develop and maintain an ongoing training system for all employees in the department.
- Motivate, mentor, and develop direct reports.
- Complete administrative tasks promptly and efficiently, including: monthly inventory reports, daily job sheets, coding of invoices, job‑site hazard analysis, mileage reports, employee time sheets and any other required reports.
- Administer D.O.T. and CDL compliance for all department employees.

Safety
- This position is considered a safety‑sensitive position and is subject to the company's drug and alcohol policy, as well as all OSHA regulations.
- All employees must wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Serves as a safety ambassador by complying with federal, state, and local laws, as well as Company safety policy, enforcing safe work practices, and proactively identifying and remedying worksite hazards.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Operating at professional construction sites: communication, reading printed materials, stamina, lifting, handling up to 50 pounds, climbing stairs and/or ladders, balancing, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, lifting overhead, moving around safety requirements.
- Required to work on project sites and operate vehicles, trailers, machinery, equipment and other tools within local, state and federal safety guidelines.
- Works outdoors, frequently for long periods of time in all weather, including extreme hot and cold temperatures.
- Potential exposure to chemicals, vapors, pollutants, viruses, gases, uneven surfaces, loud noises, moving vehicles or machines, dust/debris.
Position Type / Expected Hours of Work
- This is a full‑time position. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel
- Must be willing to travel to any and all jobsites without exception (including staying away from home if necessary).
Minimum Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED is required.
- Minimum of two (2) to three (3) years heavy construction experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Advanced education, professional training and construction experience are desirable.
- Excellent communication skills are required.
- Must be fluent in English, i.e., must be able to speak, read and write English.
- Must meet FMCSA English proficiency requirements under 49 CFR 391.11(b)(2), including the ability to read and speak English, understand highway signs, respond to official inquiries, and make required entries on reports and records. All CDL drivers will be required to complete and pass an English proficiency assessment.
Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations
- A current driver's license. A CDL license is preferred and may be required for some departments/divisions.
