Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible commercial or federal construction experience, including supervision of subcontractors and multiple trades.
  • Experience as a Superintendent or equivalent field leadership on vertical construction projects.
  • Experience with building systems and coordination of civil/site, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing trades.
  • USACE project experience strongly preferred; government experience beneficial.
  • Knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs, schedules, quality requirements, and construction means and methods.
  • Ability to develop and manage short-term construction schedules and coordinate multiple subcontractors.
  • OSHA 30-hour Safety Training within last five years.
  • First Aid/CPR certification or ability to obtain before project assignment.
  • Proficiency with Procore, Bluebeam, MS Office, and construction scheduling/documentation tech.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organization, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with Government representatives, subcontractors, design professionals, and stakeholders.
  • Must satisfy federal project access requirements and pass drug/background checks.
  • Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Review contract drawings, specifications, project requirements, submittals, and construction documents to understand work.
  • Partner with Project Manager to develop, maintain, and execute the project schedule and look-ahead schedules.
  • Plan and coordinate site logistics, mobilization, temporary facilities, equipment, manpower, deliveries, and subcontractor activities.
  • Participate in preconstruction, coordination, safety, quality control, and Government meetings.
  • Provide daily on-site leadership and overall supervision of construction activities.
  • Direct and coordinate subcontractors, field personnel, equipment, deliveries, and sequencing.
  • Maintain project schedule and develop daily/weekly work plans to meet milestones.
  • Conduct daily site walks to ensure progress aligns with contract documents and safety standards.
  • Coordinate upcoming work with subcontractors and resolve sequencing, access, and logistics conflicts.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports of manpower, activities, equipment, deliveries, delays, weather, and events.
  • Keep field drawings current and communicate changes, RFIs, and differing site conditions to the team.
  • Identify field issues early and drive to resolution to prevent impact on safety, quality, schedule, or cost.
  • Develop and drive punch-list and deficiency closure.
  • Coordinate inspections, testing, commissioning, training, and final acceptance.
  • Support closeout documentation and as-built verification.
  • Coordinate subcontractor demobilization and remaining obligations.
  • Ensure site is clean, secure, and ready for Government turnover.
  • Assist PM and QC Manager with timely closeout documentation.

LOCATION: This position requires onsite presence at our project site at Lake Red Rock, near Des Moines, Iowa.Per diem will be provided to employees traveling from locations 95 miles or more from the job site.

ABOUT THE JOB

The Tepa Companies are seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to support a USACE, Rock Island District design-build project at Lake Red Rock, Iowa.

The Superintendent is responsible for the day-to-day field leadership and successful execution of the project, including safety, schedule, subcontractor coordination, quality, productivity, and site logistics from construction through final closeout.

This position requires strong vertical construction experience and the ability to take ownership of an active project, coordinate multiple trades, identify and resolve field issues, and maintain productive working relationships with the Project Manager, Quality Control Manager, Site Safety and Health Officer, subcontractors, design team, and Government representatives.

Job Functions:

  • Review contract drawings, specifications, project requirements, submittals, and construction documents to develop a thorough understanding of the work.
  • Partner with the Project Manager to develop, maintain, and execute the project schedule and short-term look-ahead schedules.
  • Plan and coordinate site logistics, mobilization, temporary facilities, equipment, manpower, material deliveries, and subcontractor activities.
  • Participate in preconstruction, coordination, safety, quality control, and Government meetings as required.
  • Provide daily on-site leadership and overall supervision of construction activities.
  • Direct and coordinate subcontractors, field personnel, equipment, deliveries, and construction sequencing.
  • Maintain the project schedule and develop daily and weekly work plans to meet project milestones.
  • Conduct daily site walks and verify that work is progressing safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contract documents.
  • Coordinate upcoming work with subcontractors and resolve conflicts involving sequencing, access, manpower, materials, equipment, and site logistics.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports documenting manpower, subcontractor activities, equipment, deliveries, progress, delays, weather conditions, and significant project events.
  • Maintain current field drawings and communicate changes, conflicts, RFIs, and differing site conditions to the appropriate project team members.
  • Proactively identify field issues and drive them to resolution before they affect safety, quality, schedule, or cost.
  • Develop, manage, and drive completion of punch-list and deficiency work.
  • Coordinate inspections, testing, commissioning, training, and final acceptance activities as required by the contract.
  • Support completion and verification of as-built documentation and other project closeout requirements.
  • Coordinate subcontractor demobilization and completion of remaining contractual obligations.
  • Ensure the project site is complete, clean, secure, and ready for Government turnover.
  • Assist the Project Manager and Quality Control Manager with timely completion and submission of closeout documentation.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
  • High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible commercial or federal construction experience, including experience supervising subcontractors and multiple trades.
  • Demonstrated experience as a Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, or comparable field leadership role on vertical construction projects.
  • Experience with building systems and coordination of civil/site, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and specialty trades.
  • Federal Government construction experience strongly preferred; USACE project experience highly desirable.
  • Strong working knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs, schedules, quality requirements, and construction means and methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage short-term construction schedules and coordinate multiple subcontractors.
  • OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety & Health training completed within the last five years.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification or ability to obtain prior to project assignment.
  • Proficiency with Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, and construction scheduling/documentation technology.
