Foundation Personnel, a specialist recruitment partner to the civil engineering and construction sector, is working with a leading heavy civil contractor to appoint an experienced Utilities Superintendent for major projects in the Austin market.
Role Description
This is an opportunity for an experienced Utilities Superintendent to take responsibility for planning, coordinating, and controlling all field operations associated with major underground utility projects. The successful candidate will provide leadership to field teams and ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on schedule, and to the required quality standards.
Key responsibilities include
- Lead and manage daily field operations across major utility construction projects.
- Oversee foremen, crews, subcontractors, equipment, materials, and site logistics.
- Manage the installation of water, wastewater, storm drainage, and underground utility systems.
- Plan manpower, equipment, and material requirements to meet project schedules.
- Establish daily and weekly production goals and monitor progress against schedule.
- Coordinate closely with Project Managers, engineers, inspectors, clients, and subcontractors.
- Review project plans, specifications, drawings, and schedules to ensure work is being completed correctly.
- Ensure projects are constructed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company and OSHA standards.
- Conduct and enforce daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and site safety procedures.
- Monitor productivity, manpower, equipment utilization, and overall project performance.
- Identify and resolve field issues before they impact schedule, budget, or quality.
- Maintain accurate daily reports, production records, as-builts, inspections, and other project documentation.
- Assist with project scheduling, forecasting, cost control, and overall project planning.
- Ensure work is completed to the required specifications and quality standards.
- Provide leadership, training, and direction to field personnel throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications
- Minimum 8 years of experience running underground utility construction projects.
- Strong experience with water, wastewater, storm drainage, and underground utilities.
- Proven experience managing crews, foremen, subcontractors, and multiple field operations.
- Strong understanding of civil construction plans, specifications, utility installation, and project sequencing.
- Previous experience on large-scale heavy civil or infrastructure projects preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work closely with Project Managers, engineers, clients, and inspectors.
- OSHA 30 certification preferred.
- Valid driver's license.
- Austin construction experience highly preferred.
