Superintendent – Heavy Civil Road Construction

Lead Critical Utility Infrastructure Projects From the Ground Up.
We are seeking an experienced Utilities Superintendent to oversee utility installation operations on heavy civil and roadway construction projects. This is a hands‑on leadership role responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing field operations while ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with all project specifications.
The ideal candidate has extensive experience managing crews performing underground utility installation, water and sewer systems, storm drainage, roadway improvements, and civil infrastructure projects and possesses the leadership skills to successfully manage projects in a fast‑paced construction environment.
What You'll Do
Field Operations & Project Execution
- Lead and supervise all utility construction activities on assigned projects.
- Develop project work plans, schedules, and execution strategies to meet production goals.
- Coordinate daily activities of foremen, operators, laborers, and subcontractors.
- Ensure utility installations are completed according to plans, specifications, and quality standards.
- Monitor project progress and proactively address issues that may impact schedule or productivity.
Planning, Scheduling & Budget Management
- Assist with preconstruction planning, budgeting, and project estimates for labor, equipment, and materials.
- Develop and maintain project schedules to ensure timely completion.
- Monitor production rates, labor efficiency, and project costs.
- Communicate budget variances and operational challenges to project leadership.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce project costs.
Quality & Stakeholder Coordination
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure work quality and compliance.
- Collaborate with Project Managers, Engineers, City Inspectors, Owners, and other stakeholders throughout project execution.
- Ensure all project requirements, utility specifications, permits, and regulatory standards are met.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and reporting.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and motivate crews in a positive, productive work environment.
- Provide clear direction and accountability to field personnel.
- Foster teamwork and collaboration across multiple crews and disciplines.
- Effectively manage diverse teams while maintaining high performance expectations.
Safety Leadership
- Champion a strong safety culture on every project.
- Ensure compliance with all company, client, OSHA, and regulatory safety requirements.
- Conduct site safety meetings and reinforce safe work practices.
- Identify hazards and implement corrective actions to eliminate risks.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience as a Superintendent, Utility Superintendent, or Senior Foreman in heavy civil construction.
- Proven experience managing:, Underground Utilities, Water Distribution Systems, Sewer Collection Systems, Storm Drainage Systems, Roadway Utility Relocations, Heavy Civil and Infrastructure Projects.
- Strong understanding of construction means, methods, equipment, and utility installation practices.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, utility plans, and blueprints.
- Strong budgeting, scheduling, and project planning skills.
- Excellent problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Fluent in English due to contract and project requirements.
- Proficiency with construction management software, email, and Microsoft Office applications.
