ZED is an education district serving six member districts that include Triton, Kasson-Mantorville, Stewartville, Byron, Hayfield, and Blooming Prairie. ZED offers a wide array of general education and special education services to our member districts (please refer to www.zumbroed.org for details). ZED has been in existence for over 30 years.
This program is designed for Students with Unique Needs who require specialized instruction in a small classroom atmosphere with high staff support. Specific areas student's in this program focus on are social, emotional, and cognitive developmental areas, as well as transitional and vocational skills. Some students in this program may work in an individual office space and join small group lessons in a classroom, while others may engage in the small group lesson space for their learning environment. Each student has individual needs and very individualized programming in the SUN program.
Students in this program may have an overreaction to sensory stimuli, interpret social situations incorrectly, and have difficulty expressing their feelings and emotions with words and may exhibit challenging behavior as a means of communication. This program is located in a setting IV school.
The SUN Teacher will deliver special education services based on an appropriate IEP. The teacher is responsible for delivering functional academic, social, behavioral, communication, and sensory programs that will lead towards an increase in independence in the core transition areas. The transition teacher is also responsible for needed assessment, diagnostic and due process services required by the federal and state standards.
Must be currently licensed by MDE in a special education teaching area. ASD or DCD license preferred.
