POSITION: Summerscape Day Camp Counselor - This is a TEMPORARY SUMMER ONLY position
REPORTS TO: SUMMER PROGRAM SUPERVISOR

Job Summary: Under the instruction of the Summer Program Supervisor, the Camp Counselor is responsible for creating a safe, fun, and engaging environment for campers ages 5 - 12 during Summerscape camp. Camp Counselors will lead activities, supervise campers, and serve as positive role models, ensuring a memorable and enriching experience for all campers.
Key Responsibilities:
● Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of campers at all times.
● Leads and participates in a variety of activities, including arts and crafts, sports, games, off site field trips, and swim days with campers.
● Foster a positive and inclusive environment that encourages participation and creativity.
● Address and manage camper behavior in a respectful and constructive manner, following camp policies and procedures as outlined in the Day Camp Handbook.
● Assist with daily setup, cleanup, and organization of camp activities and spaces.
● Communicate effectively with campers, Summer Program Supervisor, parents, and fellow staff members.
● Model appropriate behavior and serve as a mentor to campers.
● Respond quickly to and effectively to any emergencies or safety concerns.
● Follow all camp guidelines, policies, and safety protocols as outlined in the Day Camp Handbook. ● Assist with carpool, lunch and after care. Additional duties may be assigned, as required.
Qualifications:
● Must be at least 18 years of age by Monday, May 27th, 2025.
● Previous experience working with children in a camp, school, or recreational setting preferred.
● Strong communication, leadership, and problem solving skills.
● Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
● Enthusiastic, energetic, and committed to providing a positive experience for campers.
● CPR/First Aid certification is required. If not already certified, training will be provided by the Alcuin School.
● Must be available to work the full duration of summer camp. Work Schedule: This is a full-time, seasonal position without benefits. Must also be available for Camp Counselor training May 27th - May 30th. The primary work hours are Monday through Friday with varying shifts from 7:30 AM - 5:15 PM. There will be no camp on June 19 or July 4. Camp runs Monday, June 2, to Friday, July 11.
Physical Environment and Work Requirements
● Ability to lift classroom supplies/equipment weighing up to 20 lbs
● Ability to sit, stand, bend, stoop, reach for extended periods of time daily
● Ability to work in outdoor environments, including hot summer climates
