Job summary

Westfield Specialty Insurance offers a paid ten-week internship designed for current students to gain hands-on exposure to the insurance business. The 2027 Summer Intern Program runs from June 7th to August 13th, with structured training, mentoring, and real project work alongside senior leaders across the company.

As an Underwriting Intern you’ll assist teams, analyze risk, learn underwriting processes, and develop technical skills while building your professional network.

Qualifications

• Currently matriculated at a 4-year college/university pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree (required).
• Strong GPA preferred (Minimum GPA of 3.2 required).
• Strong oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Support underwriting teams with research, data analysis, and risk assessment activities.
• Assist underwriters in evaluating complex or non-standard insurance applications (cyber, D&O, E&O, marine, event).
• Research industry risks, trends, and exposures in specialty lines.
• Prepare underwriting files with risk factors, coverage recommendations, and pricing justifications.
• Organize supporting documentation like loss runs and financial statements.
• Conduct competitor analysis and benchmark options or pricing.
• Compile data to support underwriting strategies and guidelines.
• Attend underwriting meetings and shadow underwriters on client calls.
• Participate in training sessions on products, systems, and risk modelling tools.
• Stay updated on niche markets, policy forms, and regulatory requirements.
