Job summary

The State of Missouri is seeking a traffic management intern for the Chesterfield Traffic Management Center (14301 South Forty, Chesterfield, MO 63017). You will review and approve roadway access, traffic handling, and excavation work on state rights of way and perform inspections to ensure permit compliance.

Responsibilities include issuing permits to utilities and contractors, explaining procedures to stakeholders, reviewing construction plans for drainage and traffic flow, evaluating work

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in a relevant bachelor's or post-bachelor's degree program; ABET-accredited for engineering candidates.
  • Must possess, and maintain, an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher out of 4.0.
  • Must have completed at least 30 credit hours.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and issues permits to utility companies, contractors, developers, governmental entities, or individuals for work on department right of way with designated project specifications and requirements.
  • Meets with contractors, developers, governmental entities, individuals, and utility companies to explain procedures and department policies on granting permits.
  • Reviews and approves proposed plans for construction on department right of way for feasibility with regard to drainage, sight distance, landscaping, curbing, traffic flow, and related requirements; makes recommendations for modification; may coordinate permit work with other district departments.
  • Reviews work zone requests and approves or restricts work zone activity based on the impact to traffic and the community.
  • Conducts field inspections of projects and work zones, and performs measurements of traffic control devices to ensure compliance with departmental standards.

Education

ABET-accredited engineering program
Enrollment in relevant Bachelor's or Post-Bachelor's degree program
GPA 2.0 or higher
At least 30 credit hours completed
