Job summary

Voya Financial, Inc. in Scottsdale seeks a Summer Legal Intern to support the legal administration of the mutual fund platform, gaining exposure to securities law, regulatory filings, fund governance, and legal operations.

The intern will work onsite three days per week to support team priorities. The role involves drafting and reviewing materials for Board meetings, reviewing contracts, and aiding process-improvement initiatives using AI-assisted tools.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Currently enrolled in law school and pursuing a JD.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the review and drafting of regulatory filings, including registration statements.
• Review and draft disclosures for shareholder reports and assist with related document reviews.
• Research securities law issues, including SEC guidance and matters under the Investment Company Act of 1940, and draft legal memoranda.
• Draft and review materials related to Board meetings, including memoranda, resolutions, minutes, and other materials.
• Review and draft contracts related to mutual fund operations, including management and sub-advisory agreements and expense limitation agreements.
• Support legal operations and process-improvement projects, including document review and workflow improvements.
• Use AI-assisted legal research and document-review tools to support research, analysis, and process improvement with attorney oversight.

Get to Know the Opportunity:

This position is part of Voya Investment Management (Voya IM) and our Summer Student Program, offering students the opportunity to gain firsthand experience in the investment management industry while working alongside professionals across the Voya IM organization. The intern will support attorneys in the legal administration of the company’s mutual fund platform complex, gaining practical exposure to securities law, regulatory filings, fund governance, and legal operations. This role is based in our Scottsdale office, with expected onsite presence 3 days per week to support team and business priorities.

Contributions You’ll Make:

• Assist with the review and drafting of regulatory filings, including registration statements.
• Review and draft disclosures for shareholder reports and assist with related document reviews.
• Research securities law issues, including SEC guidance and matters arising under the Investment Company Act of 1940, and draft legal memoranda.
• Draft and review materials related to Board meetings, including memoranda, resolutions, minutes, and other meeting materials.
• Review and draft contracts related to mutual fund operations, including management and sub-advisory agreements, expense limitation agreements, and multiple class plans.
• Support legal operations and process-improvement projects, including document review, consistency checks, workflow improvements, and knowledge-management initiatives.
• Use technology, including AI-assisted legal research and document-review tools, to support legal research, analysis, and process improvement, with appropriate attorney oversight.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Knowledge & Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Currently enrolled in law school and pursuing a JD.

Preferred Knowledge & Experience:

Compensation Pay Disclosure:

Voya is committed to pay that’s fair and equitable, which means comparable pay for comparable roles and responsibilities. The below annual base salary range reflects the expected hiring range(s) for this position in the location(s) listed. In addition to base salary, Voya offers incentive opportunities (i.e., annual cash incentives, sales incentives, and/or long-term incentives) based on the role to reward the achievement of annual performance objectives. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Voya Financial is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Actual compensation offered may vary from the posted salary range based upon the candidate’s geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked. $27.00/hr. USD
