Job summary

Mount Hermon Association invites applications for a Summer Staff position at Kidder Creek in Etna, CA. Camp counselors model a Christ-centered lifestyle, care for campers, and nurture spiritual growth through planned activities and curriculum aligned with MHA’s mission.

You will live with a small group, lead Bible studies, and ensure safety and orderly camp operations. The role requires a mature faith, CPR/First Aid certification, a valid driver’s license, and prior camp experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience with elementary to high school students.
• Knowledge of horses preferred.

Responsibilities

• Live with and lead approximately 7-8 campers each week.
• Lead small group Bible studies.
• Guide campers spiritually through activities and curriculum.
• Oversee adventure, recreation and guiding activities with enthusiasm.
• Ensure camper safety at all times.
• Attend staff meetings and events.
• Keep cabins, living areas and supplies clean and orderly.
• Participate in the broader program and rotation duties with enthusiasm.
• Aid in building the summer staff community through positive conduct.
• Be on time, prepared, and assist with urgent needs as they arise.
• Assist with housekeeping and kitchen duties during rotation weeks.
• Ride the transportation bus as a chaperone on one weekend.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Ranch Camp Counselors are responsible to model a genuine lifestyle of Christian discipleship, providing for campers safety and well-being while befriending and nurturing spiritual growth through program activities and curriculum in manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision, and values.

Key Job Accountabilities

• Live with and lead approx. 7-8 campers each week.
• Lead small group Bible studies.
• Seek out and connect to campers guiding them spiritually through activities and curriculum.
• Oversee and implement a variety of adventure, recreation, and guiding activities as assigned, with enthusiasm.
• Ensure camper safety at all times.
• Attend all staff meetings and events.
• Share in the responsibilities of keeping camp areas (including cabins, living areas, workspaces and supplies) clean and orderly.
• Actively participate in and contribute to the broader program, serving in both your primary and secondary roles with enthusiasm.
• Actively engage and help build the summer staff community with your attitude, words, and actions.
• Ensure smooth execution of the program specifically by being on time, prepared, and willing to assist with immediate and/or unforeseen needs.
• Housekeeping & kitchen duties during rotation weeks including (but not limited to) dishes, bathrooms, trash, etc.
• Ride the transportation bus as a chaperone one weekend.
• Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisors.

Qualifications: Education/Certifications/Licenses

• At least 1 year college experience preferred.
• Must be CPR/First Aid certified.
• Current valid driver’s license and a clean driving record are required.

Work Experience

• Prior camp counseling experience preferred.
• Prior experience working with elementary, junior high and high school students.
• Experience and knowledge of horses preferred.

Physical Demands

• The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
• Requires lifting and transporting 25-50 lbs. of gear and equipment up and down stairs.
• Requires employee to ascend and/or descend ladders, stairs, cables, and trees using hands and feet.
• The employee is frequently required to run, swim, stand, sit for long periods and use steep trails and stairs.
• The employee is frequently required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl.
• The physical environment requires the employee to talk and hear both in person from close and long distances and by phone or radio.
• The employee may be required to lift, push or pull persons or equipment over 100 lbs.
• Specific vision requirements of this job include close vision, distance vision, use of both eyes, ability to distinguish basic colors and shades; depth perception, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.
• Ability to be in the sun for extended periods.

Additional Requirements/Skills

• Preferably at least 21 years of age or older with a clean driving record due to MH driver policy.
• Must be at least 18 years of age due to the requirement for onsite community living.
• Will be required to work secondary assignments and rotation week assignments of adventure, recreation, transportation and/or housekeeping duties.
• Must agree to and comply with MHA’s employee driving guidelines for MHA-owned vehicles and use of personal vehicles for business purposes.
• Assist in service needs (maintenance, food service, and housekeeping) at camp as assigned by the Kidder Creek leadership team.
• Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in MHA’s Mission, Vision, Values and Commitment statements.
• Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
• Satisfactory completion of background investigation as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
