Job summary

Norfolk Yacht and Country Club is seeking a Summer Sailing Coach for its 2026 program. You will deliver developmentally appropriate sailing instruction and serve as a positive role model for youth sailors.

You will arrive by 8:30 AM, prep lessons for a 9:00 AM start, maintain equipment, and ensure safety throughout the day. Certifications must be current, and you will represent NYCC professionally in all interactions.

Qualifications

US Sailing Level 1 Instructor Certification required or to be completed by June 1, 2026.
NASBLA-Approved Safe Powerboating Course required.
CPR and First Aid Certification required.
SafeSport Training required.

Responsibilities

Deliver safe, fun, and developmentally appropriate sailing instruction.
Serve as a positive role model, mentor, and leader to youth sailors.
Communicate clearly and professionally with parents, sailors, and coworkers.
Maintain NYCC equipment and facilities in a respectful and organized manner.
Adhere to NYCC policies and procedures outlined during training and while representing NYCC.
Arrive by 8:30 AM daily to prepare lessons for a 9:00 AM start.
Check fuel levels and refuel coach boats as needed.
Maintain cleanliness of coach boats and report issues promptly.
Perform minor repairs on Optis and coach boats; report major repairs to the Sailing Director or Head Coach.
Greet sailors and parents at morning and dismissal times.
Prepare teaching materials, supplies, and safety equipment before class at 9:00 AM.
Wear NYCC coach shirt and maintain professional appearance.
Supervise sailors during midday pool break to ensure safety and behavior.
