Job description

This is a summer, entry-level position on day shift. The ideal candidate will work in various areas of the plant. Hours typically range from 6:00am to 4:30pm, with some variation, and weekend work is required.

Summary

The employee performs a variety of duties throughout the plant, primarily in Inside Production. Rotation among duties is required as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  1. Machine pack: Stand by the conveyor, press product into jars, and inspect for foreign objects, broken pickles, or defective glass.
  2. Hand pack: Pack products into jars or containers, weigh if necessary, and inspect for defects. Meet production rates and handle materials efficiently.
  3. Pouch line: Inspect pouches for leaks, discard defective pouches, and move good pouches to the pasteurizer, ensuring proper orientation and spacing.
  4. Other Duties: Inspect products on conveyor feeding packing machines.
  5. Uncasing: Place glass containers on the unscramble table, move pallets, and ensure continuous line operation.
  6. Glass inspecting: Visually inspect glass jars, remove defective ones.
  7. Check weighing: Verify weight and appearance of jars, sort acceptable and unacceptable jars accordingly.
  8. Additional duties: Participate in safety, training, meetings, and perform tasks like reworking, handling bulk containers, cutting product, repackaging, and cleaning as assigned.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: No special education required; good eye/hand coordination needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Machines and Tools: Knife, Pliers, Mallet, Scales, Pans.

Physical Demands: Reaching, standing, pushing, lifting, fingering, grasping, repetitive motions, and light exertion (up to 10 pounds occasionally).

Work Environment: Indoor work with seasonal temperature variations, exposure to fumes, machinery noise, grease, and requiring PPE such as head covers, gloves, and aprons.
