Job summary

Kings Bay YM-YWHA, Inc is seeking a Summer Teacher Assistant to support preschool classrooms for an 8-week program in Brooklyn. The role involves supervising children when the Regular Teacher is unavailable and stepping in on short notice, including same-day assignments.

The position is seasonal and flexible, with options for Day Shift or After-School Shift from late June through late August. Strong English communication and childcare experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• 1 year in Early Childhood Education or Substitute certificate.
• At least 1 year experience leading/instructing childcare.
• Strong English verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to adapt plans to specific classrooms.
• Flexibility and critical thinking skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Follow lesson plans provided by the Regular Teacher.
• Supervise and engage children when Regular Teacher is absent.
• Track attendance, collect homework and provide general supervision.
• Work with students individually or in groups and adapt teaching methods.
• Manage class from roll call to tidy up after students.
• Supervise students in halls and on the playground.
• For long-term substitutes: develop lesson plans consistent with past plans.
• Communicate daily and meet weekly with the head teacher and assist in supervising student teachers.
