Job summary

The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, part of Penn Medicine, invites BSN students to apply for the Summer 2027 Nurse Extern Cohort. This eight-week externship offers hands-on patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, with weekly classroom sessions and skill workshops to bridge classroom learning and clinical practice.

Externs will rotate through HUP units including Advanced Medicine, Surgery, Emergency Dept, Women’s Health, Critical Care and Cardiology, gaining mentored

Qualifications

• Must be a BSN student in an accredited program with GPA 3.0 or better.
• Must be a rising senior (summer between junior and senior years).
• Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care under direct supervision of a registered nurse.
• Spend weekly time in classroom with Nurse Educators for discussions and skill workshops.
• Assist in assigned units across multiple departments during the externship.
