Job summary

MIT Lincoln Laboratory in Lexington, MA invites an undergraduate intern to join the Mechanical/Aerospace engineering group for a 10–12 week summer program. You will assist with CAD-based design, FE analysis, prototyping and hands-on testing of advanced mechanical systems.

The position emphasizes real-world impact on national security, mentorship from senior engineers, and opportunities for professional development in a collaborative lab environment.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautics/Astronautics, Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Physics.
• Completed Mechanics of Materials or an equivalent class is preferred.
• CAD, finite element analysis or prototyping experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with engineering design using CAD to model parts, generate drawings and support fabrication.
• Perform structural analysis including FE models, analyze results, and contribute to testing and data management.
• Engage in hands-on prototyping, assembly and testing of mechanical, opto-mechanical and electro-mechanical systems.
