Job summary

Westinghouse Electric Company is seeking a Linux Administrator intern for the Cranberry Township facility. This paid, full-time hybrid internship runs May–August 2027 and reports to the Linux Services Manager.

You will help ensure stability, security, and performance of Linux servers, collaborate with IT, and gain hands-on experience with Linux-based infrastructure, scripting, and network services.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in information systems.
• Completed Sophomore year of college.
• Linux operating systems proficiency including Ubuntu, SLES, or Red Hat.
• Proficient in Linux CLI and shell scripting.
• Proficient in virtualization technologies such as VMware or KVM.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain Linux operating systems and related software.
• Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure high reliability of Linux-based infrastructure.
• Collaborate with teams to design and implement Linux-based solutions.
• Implement and maintain security measures to protect Linux systems and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Perform regular system backups and disaster recovery procedures.
• Automate system administrative tasks using Bash or Python to improve efficiency.
• Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls.
• Install, configure, and maintain network services including DNS, DHCP, and LDAP.
• Recommend hardware and software upgrades to improve performance and scalability.

About the role:

As a Linux Administrator intern, you will help ensure the stability, security, and performance of Linux servers. The Linux Administrator intern collaborates with the IT team to handle Linux-based infrastructure, troubleshoot issues, and provide technical support to users.

You will report to the Linux Services Manager and be located at our Cranberry facility. This is a paid full-time hybrid position for the summer, May - August 2027.

Key Responsibilities:

• Install, configure, and maintain Linux operating systems and related software
• Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure high reliability of Linux-based infrastructure
• Collaborate with teams to design and implement Linux-based solutions
• Implement and maintain security measures to protect Linux systems from unauthorized access and ensure compliance with industry regulations
• Perform regular system backups and disaster recovery procedures to minimize data loss and maintain business continuity
• Automate system administrative tasks using scripting languages such as Bash or Python to refine processes and improve efficiency
• Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls to ensure system security and data integrity
• Install, configure, and maintain network services, including DNS, DHCP, and LDAP
• Recommend hardware and software upgrades to improve system performance and scalability

Qualifications:

• Pursuing a bachelor's degree in information systems
• Completed Sophomore year of college
• Linux operating systems, including Ubuntu, SLES, or Red Hat proficiency
• Proficient in Linux command-line interface (CLI) and shell scripting
• Proficient in virtualization technologies, such as VMware or KVM
