The Department of Game, Fish and Parks in Sioux Falls, SD is seeking an Intern - Fisheries Management for the Summer session. The role focuses on hands-on field work under the guidance of experienced staff.

You will participate in fish population surveys, habitat projects, and outreach activities, with training on electrofishing, gear operation, and data recording. Enrollment as a college or technical institute student is required.

Qualifications

• Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply.
• By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.
• Preference may be given to juniors/seniors, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions.

Responsabilités

• Work with the team managing all aquatic resources in southeastern South Dakota.
• Receive training and experience with fish population surveys, fisheries research, habitat and access projects, aquatic invasive species surveys, and outreach events.
• Operate gear such as trap nets, gill nets, and seines; assist with boats, data recording, and watercraft procedures.
• Collaborate with regional law enforcement, game management and wildlife habitat programs when assigned.
