Job summary

The Department of Game, Fish, and Parks is offering a Summer Fish Hatchery Intern position at the Blue Dog State Fish Hatchery in Waubay, SD. The internship runs May through August and can be full-time (40 hr/week) or part-time (approx.

20–40 hr/week) depending on the student’s schedule, with on-site housing available. Interns assist with hatchery operations—feeding, inventories, and routine rearing unit cleanings—start with overwinter trout/salmon, then shift to walleye spawning and pond

Qualifications

• Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time or full-time student.
• Minimum of 6 credit hours in upcoming semester.
• Preference for South Dakota residents or SD institutions.

Responsibilities

• Feed fish and manage inventories.
• Perform rearing unit cleanings and maintenance.
• Stock fish into public waters and maintain facilities.
• Collect data, review literature, and assist with analysis.
• Potentially lead a small research project.
