Position Description

The summer internships will begin in May. The opportunity exists to work during the school year whenever your schedule allows but up to a maximum of 1,560 hrs or there is no longer a need for help. Blue Dog Hatchery interns will be involved in all aspects of hatchery operations, including fish culture activities such as feeding, fish inventories, and rearing unit cleanings. They will stock fish into public fish waters, and perform building, grounds, and equipment maintenance. Interns will be required to work both indoors and outdoors, which will involve wearing waders, working in inclement weather, and lifting up to 50 lbs. The opportunity exists to play a key role in numerous hatchery research projects, primarily by collecting data and conducting literature reviews, but also by assisting with data analysis and manuscript preparation. Interns may also be assigned lead responsibilities on a specific research project if desired. Free on-site housing is available if needed. Preference will be given to those pursing a degree in a biology related field but is not required. All degrees will be considered.
