Job summary

University of Kentucky is seeking an Assistant Teacher / Student Worker for the Early Childhood Laboratory to support teachers and supervise children aged birth to 5 years. The role runs across Summer 2026, Fall 2026, and Spring 2027, with shifts aligning to lab hours and campus activities.

Responsibilities include supervising children, assisting with daily routines, reading to kids, and helping with classroom organization.

Qualifications

• Applicant should have experience working with young children, preferably in school or child care settings.

Required Education

Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Special Education or Psychology are preferred fields of study. Other fields may be considered if applicant has a strong background in early childhood.

Required Related Experience

Applicant should have experience working with young children, preferably in school or child care settings. We are looking for students who love working with children during the Summer of 2026, Fall of 2026, and/or Spring of 2027 at the UK Early Childhood Lab.

Required License/Registration/Certification

Applicant must have a current negative TB test (within the last 2 years) or be willing to get one. CPR and 1st aid certification is required within 3 months of employment. All employees must have a finger print background check. This will be done when applicants are offered the job.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to pick up children weighing up to 40 pounds, push strollers and be able to get up and down from the floor several times a day. The children also go outside at least 2 times each day. Teachers go outside with children.

Shift

The ECL opens at 7:00a.m. and closes at 5:30.p.m.

Job Summary

Job duties of a student worker at the ECL include playing with and supervising young children, helping classroom teachers with cleaning and organizing, assisting with daily routines, reading to children, and going to the playground and walks around campus.
