Job summary

Independent School District 197 is seeking a Special Education Paraprofessional for the Extended School Year (ESY) program. The role covers districtwide activities from July 6 to July 30, 2026, with hours varying and starting wage per the paraprofessional contract (approximately $23.21/hour).

The position requires teamwork, ability to lift up to 50lbs, and experience supporting students with disabilities and challenging behaviors. Transportation and supervision tasks may be included as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma is required.
• Ability to work as a team member with staff and parents.
• Ability to lift up to 50lbs and assist with transfers.
• Ability to support students’ full body weight.
• Ability to tolerate frequent bending and lifting.
• Ability to work with behaviorally challenging students, including those who may be physically or verbally aggressive; must communicate effectively.
• Experience with individuals with disabilities, autism, emotional challenges, behavior challenges & trauma.

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers in reinforcing skills and strategies.
• Support intercultural understanding among diverse students.
• Understand students’ needs, interests and abilities.
• Guide independent study, enrichment, and remedial work.
• Assist with large group activities and field trips.
• Assist with wash-up and toilet routines including lifting and transferring students.
• Supervise students getting on/off buses and in building as needed.
• Apply behavior management techniques as directed by teachers.
• Perform clerical tasks related to students.
• Other duties as assigned.
