Job summary

Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas seeks a Junior Riding Instructor for Camp Bette Perot in Palestine, TX, a summer program with a thriving equestrian component. You’ll help run daily riding activities, care for horses, supervise campers, and uphold safety standards in a 1,300-acre camp setting.

You’ll work with the Equestrian Center team, participate in badge work, and support a welcoming, inclusive environment for youth across sessions in June and July.

Qualifications

• Fifteen years of age or older
• 2 years experience in the Tejas Riders EQ Leadership Program (Junior coaching a plus)
• Knowledge of and ability to work with children, adults, and horses
• Knowledge / Understanding of Girl Scouting philosophy and program or willingness to learn
• Flexible and creative in carrying out responsibilities
• Ability to function as part of a team
• Ability to adapt to group living situations
• Demonstrate courtesy, respect and professionalism to coworkers and campers
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends
• Adheres to GSNETX equal opportunity and non-discrimination policies
• Must hold membership in the Girl Scout organization and subscribe to the Girl Scout Promise and Law
• Regular, reliable attendance including before/after hours and weekends
• Must complete and pass a criminal background check

Responsibilities

• Provides Equestrian program activities following Girl Scout program standards, safety guidelines, and activity checkpoints
• Prepares and carries out program activities with campers
• Responsible for a specific set of horses and their daily care
• Ensures all badge work scheduled for each session is completed
• Serve as a role model for campers, volunteers, and staff
• Assist with care of horses including feeding, watering, and veterinary care
• Willing to participate in leadership or leadership roles in equestrian programming
• Keep staff living quarters and staff house clean
• Create an inclusive and welcoming camp environment for diverse participants
• Contribute to equestrian center's cleanliness and organization
• Performs other duties as delegated by Equestrian Manager or Equestrian Care Specialist
• Maintain safety and compliance with ACA, GSUSA, and state health standards
• Collaborate with camp staff professionally and report incidents to supervisor
