This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the guidance of the Day Camp Site Director or Program Director, the youth leader will supervise children, lead activities, and uphold YMCA core values.

Under the guidance of the Day Camp Site Director or Program Director, the youth leader will supervise children, lead activities, and uphold YMCA core values.

Essential Functions

  1. Supervise children during activities, ensuring safety and engagement.
  2. Lead age-appropriate activities based on curriculum and themes.
  3. Monitor children for signs of abuse or neglect.
  4. Provide age-appropriate discipline.
  5. Respect children's privacy and never be alone with a camper.
  6. Manage campers’ arrival and departure, including well checks.
  7. Be familiar with safety and emergency procedures; act as primary responder in incidents.
  8. Keep camp and program areas clean, safe, and organized.
  9. Communicate professionally with staff, parents, and children.
  10. Complete required forms and reports.
  11. Intervene in unsafe play.
  12. Work outside regular hours for meetings or events as needed.
  13. Adjust activities for children's safety and mood.
  14. Distribute snacks or meals.
  15. Maintain continuing education requirements.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Availability Monday-Friday, shifts 6-8 hours between 7am-6:30pm.
  • At least 6 months of childcare experience preferred.
  • Successful fingerprinting background check (paid by employer).
  • High School Diploma or GED required; Work Study accepted.
  • Certifications in CPR, First Aid, AED within first 60 days.
  • Ability to foster positive relationships and serve as a role model.
  • Ability to plan and implement age-appropriate activities.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Active environment requiring alertness and communication skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds, stand, walk, run, and participate in sports.
  • Respond effectively to emergencies.
