As a Summer Day Camp Counselor at the Y, you’re providing a safe, welcoming environment for kids in your community to reach their full potential. Our summer starting rate is $12.00 per hour with the potential to receive more based on responsibilities.

Responsibilities:
  • Attend all scheduled staff meetings and trainings.
  • Establish a positive relationship with each child.
  • Develop positive relationships with parents and staff.
  • Develop weekly activities for a group of 12 children.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all children, including ensuring children apply sunscreen and stay hydrated.
  • Know where all group members are at all times.
  • Lead games and activities.
  • Maintain the appearance of the camp through cleanliness and set-up.
  • Take daily attendance and ensure each child is signed in and out by a responsible party each day.
  • Actively engage children and participants in activities.
  • Prepare and distribute USDA and HEPA approved snacks and/or meals to participants.
  • Perform daily count of meals and snacks served.
  • Report all injuries and incidents to the Director or Coordinator.
  • Display YMCA character values (Honesty, Caring, Respect, and Responsibility) at all times.
  • Required to swim at least two times per week.
Requirements:
  • Must have an interest in and like children and exemplify and support the YMCA philosophy.
  • Must be 16 years of age or older.
  • Must complete Compliance Training within 30 days of hire date.
  • Must be certified in CPR, AED, O2, and First Aid (Training provided by the Y, if needed).
