Join us for the experience of a lifetime - the YMCA is hiring Summer Day Camp Counselors for 2025!

At the Y, we create an exciting, safe camp environment for kids and staff to have an unforgettable summer. While campers take part in unique experiences and adventures, our Summer Day Camp Counselors develop leadership skills and confidence while making lasting friendships and memories.

Pay starts at $17.90 per hour, Monday-Friday schedule

The Summer Day Camp Counselor serves as a professional role model, leading by example and guiding campers through recreational activities that teach life skills, encourage healthy and safe behaviors, and create a positive camper experience. They ensure each youth has adequate supervision, with no youth left unsupervised at any time.

Responsibilities

• Provide excellent customer service and create outstanding camper experiences
• Lead recreational activities including arts and crafts, sports, nature hikes, archery, and games
• Instruct campers using age-appropriate methods, modifying activities as needed
• Model socially acceptable behaviors and use positive reinforcement
• Communicate regularly with supervisors and team members
• Support camp activities and ensure safety and health standards
• Monitor campers and provide corrective coaching when necessary
• Set up and maintain facilities and equipment

Qualifications

• Passion for working with diverse youth
• Enjoy outdoors, creativity, and active play
• Experience in camping, childcare, education, recreation, or sports is a plus but not required
• Must be 18 or older by the start of camp
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to serve as a positive role model
• Willingness to learn and apply new skills
• Meet physical requirements as outlined

Child Abuse Prevention

• Complete required training
