Lead the Fun, Shape the Future: Be a Summer Camp Counselor! Join us for the experience of a lifetime - the YMCA is hiring Summer Day Camp Counselors for 2025!

At the Y, we create an exciting, safe camp environment for kids and staff to have an unforgettable summer. While campers participate in unique experiences and adventures, our Summer Day Camp Counselors develop leadership skills and confidence while making lasting friendships and memories.

Pay starts at $17.90 per hour, Monday-Friday schedule

The Summer Day Camp Counselor serves as a professional role model by leading recreational activities that teach life skills, promote healthy and safe behaviors, and ensure a positive camper experience. They ensure adequate supervision of each youth, with no youth left unsupervised.

As a Summer Day Camp Counselor, your responsibilities include:

  • Providing excellent customer service and creating outstanding camper experiences
  • Leading recreational activities such as arts and crafts, sports, nature hikes, and more
  • Teaching and modifying activities to engage campers of all levels
  • Modeling socially acceptable behaviors and using positive reinforcement
  • Communicating regularly with supervisors and team members
  • Supporting camp activities and ensuring safety and compliance with rules
  • Monitoring campers and providing corrective coaching as needed
  • Setting up and maintaining camp facilities and equipment

Requirements to become a Summer Day Camp Counselor include:

  • A passion for working with diverse youth
  • Enjoyment of outdoor activities, creativity, and a willingness to work hard
  • Experience in camping, childcare, education, recreation, or sports is a plus but not required
  • Being at least 18 years old by the start of camp
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • A commitment to high-quality instruction and positive role modeling
  • Ability to establish constructive relationships with youth
  • Willingness to learn and apply new skills
  • Meeting physical qualifications as outlined in the job description

Child Abuse Prevention:

  • Report hazards, suspicious behavior, and policy violations
  • Follow all policies related to child safety
  • Complete required child abuse prevention training
