Our summer starting rate for a coordinator is $13.00 per hour with the potential to receive more based on responsibilities.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
  • Coordinators are responsible for staff oversight, as well as planning and implementing all activities in the childcare program at a designated day camp site.
  • Note: This is a variable hour, seasonal position, scheduled to work 40 hours per week for the duration of summer programming (typically 12 weeks) and is not eligible for YMCA full time employee benefits as it is only a seasonal full time position during the summer months.
  • Monday-Friday, some weekend hours for program training.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop meaningful and sustainable relationships with members, donors and volunteers.
  • Establish a positive relationship with each child.
  • Lead games and activities.
  • Supervise staff to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all children, including assisting in applying sunscreen and making sure children stay hydrated.
  • Maintain minimum requirements for state and YMCA standards.
  • Know where all group members are at all times.
  • Administer and oversee the curriculum outlines on a daily basis as part of the goals set in conjunction with the YMCA director.
  • Maintain a 1:12 ratio at all times.
  • Report all injuries and incidences to the site coordinator.
  • Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings to help plan activities.
  • Develop positive relationships with parents and staff.
  • Display YMCA core values (Honesty, Caring, Respect and Responsibility) at all times.
  • Position may require work outside the regularly scheduled program hours.
  • Implement and ensure the CATCH program curriculum is done on a weekly basis.
EFFECT ON END RESULTS:

This position directly affects the overall YMCA’s operation. When done properly, the program will have grown and will help provide a positive atmosphere and enhance the Mission of the YMCA.

Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Must stay current in CPR/AED/O2 and First Aid, renewed annually. (Training provided by the Y, if needed)
  • Must complete all required Redwoods Trainings within 30 days of hire and renewed annually.
  • Must have an interest in, and like children and exemplify and support the YMCA philosophy.
  • Must be 21 years of age, have a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED and have 12 hours of elementary education or child development course work or at least 2 years of experience working with children.
  • Must attend all scheduled YMCA trainings, have current CPR certification and uphold the YMCA employee appearance guidelines.
